The role will have a <strong>primary focus on Microsoft SQL Server</strong> and a <strong>secondary focus on MongoDB</strong>, with responsibilities spanning environment builds, capacity planning, installations, configurations, high availability setup, performance tuning, and proactive monitoring.</p> <p> </p> <p>The DBA will also act as a <strong>consultant to development teams</strong>, ensuring database-aware design, efficient coding practices, and system reliability. A strong emphasis is placed on <strong>automation</strong> (via PowerShell, scripting, and configuration management) to improve consistency, scalability, and operational efficiency.</p> <p>While the primary focus is on <strong>SQL Server and MongoDB</strong>, experience with <strong>Oracle</strong> or <strong>cloud-native database technologies</strong> (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI or Atlas) is a plus.</p> <p><strong> </strong></p> <p>Based in Katowice, Poland (on-site or hybrid as required)</p> <h2>Responsibilities</h2> <ul> <li>Design, install, configure, upgrade, and maintain SQL Server and MongoDB databases across multiple environments.</li> <li>Plan and manage storage allocation, ensuring scalability and future growth.</li> <li>Create and manage core database objects, schemas, and security roles.</li> <li>Implement and maintain database security, compliance, and auditing standards.</li> <li>Develop and maintain physical data models and enforce database standards.</li> <li>Proactively monitor and tune databases for performance, availability, and scalability.</li> <li>Implement robust backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies (Always On, replication, log shipping, PBM/MongoDump).</li> <li>Develop and maintain automated administration scripts (PowerShell, Bash, or similar).</li> <li>Implement archiving solutions and data lifecycle management.</li> <li>Review database code and development activities to ensure efficiency, scalability, and adherence to best practices.</li> <li>Provide expert-level troubleshooting and root cause analysis for database issues.</li> <li>Mentor development teams on SQL coding standards, performance tuning, and query optimization.</li> <li>Continually refine DBA standards, procedures, and automation practices.</li> <li>Provide on-call support and occasional travel as required.</li> </ul> <h2>Qualifications</h2> <p><u>Education:</u></p> <p> </p> <p>Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in <strong>Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field</strong>.</p> <p> </p> <p><u>Experience:</u></p> <p> </p> <ul> <li><strong>5+ years</strong> of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server DBA experience in enterprise-scale environments.</li> <li><strong>5+ years</strong> of experience with <strong>high availability solutions</strong> (Always On, clustering, replication, log shipping).</li> <li><strong>5+ years</strong> of advanced <strong>T-SQL development and SQL tuning</strong>.</li> <li><strong>5+ years</strong> supporting developers with application design, schema optimization, and query performance.</li> <li><strong>5+ years</strong> of hands-on MongoDB administration experience (replica sets, sharding, backups, monitoring).</li> <li><strong>5+ years</strong> of Windows Server / Windows Core and/or Linux administration experience.</li> <li><strong>PowerShell scripting expertise</strong> for automation (DBATools.io a plus)</li> <li>Experience with <strong>automation/configuration management</strong> (Ansible, Terraform, BitBucket, etc.)</li> <li>Experience with <strong>monitoring/observability tools</strong> (SQL Profiler, Extended Events, SolarWinds/DPA, DataDog, PMM)</li> <li>Exposure to <strong>cloud database technologies</strong> (GCP, AWS, Azure)</li> <li>Experience integrating databases with <strong>DevOps/CI/CD pipelines</strong></li> </ul> <p> </p> <p><u>Skills:</u></p> <p> </p> <ul> <li>Deep expertise with <strong>SQL Server internals</strong> (Always On, clustering, replication, query store).</li> <li>Knowledge of <strong>MongoDB internals</strong> (replica sets, sharding, WiredTiger, security).
