Job Description:

Summary:

The Program Assistant, AU Core supports the Core Leader Program, which employs undergraduate students who offer peer support in the AU Core (American University’s inquiry-based liberal arts curriculum). The Program Assistant focuses on helping Core Leaders to effectively work with students and deepen learning in their Habits of Mind or Integrative courses. The position will perform a variety of duties related to training and professional development, program assessment, and general administration.

Essential Functions:

  • Meet and build rapport with Core Leaders by leading weekly small group meetings.

  • Facilitate ongoing opportunities for Core Leaders to reflect and learn.

  • Build knowledge about practices and activities that support student learning.

  • Assist with the development and maintenance of Core Leader resources.

  • Gather input from Core Leaders, faculty, and students to aid with program assessment.

  • Support program staff with general administration, such as responding to email correspondence.

  • Participate in mandatory staff meetings and training workshops.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • 10-15 hours per week.

  • Part-Time.

  • Work can be performed remotely.

  • The position will start in August and ends in May; potential for summer employment and renewal.

Salary Range:

  • $19.00/hour(Master's)-$22.00/hour(Doctoral)

Required Experience:

  • Currently enrolled American University degree-seeking graduate student.

  • Excellent written, oral, and communication skills.

  • Previous facilitation experience (classes, student organizations, activism, etc.).

  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills.

  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and take initiative.
