Operations Accountant

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Operations Accountant manages and analyzes day-to-day financial operations across manufacturing and modular build activities. The role focuses on operational accounting, inventory accuracy, WIP control, and internal controls, providing timely, accurate insights that drive operational efficiency and support management decision making.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations related to COGS, inventory, and manufacturing overhead. Prepare internal reports highlighting key operational KPIs.
- Prepare and review monthly account reconciliations, ensuring balances are accurate, supported, and compliant with internal controls.
- Partner with Planning and Production to resolve inventory discrepancies and improve inventory accuracy and traceability.
- Monitor material movements (issues, returns, backflush transactions) to ensure accurate system reporting and alignment with production activity.
- Improve scrap tracking and reporting across cutting, assembly, and production processes.
- Train production supervisors on work order accuracy, alignment, and timely closure.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls over inventory, capitalization, and manufacturing transactions; support audit readiness.
- Collaborate with Planning, Procurement, Production, Quality, and IT/PI teams to improve data integrity (BOMs, routings, and system logic) and reduce rework or adjustments.
- Review and approve (or recommend approval for) purchase requisitions and inventory adjustments to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting policies.
- Participate in special projects to support operational improvements and financial analysis.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by TAS.
JOB SKILLS:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Ability to interpret operational data and translate it into actionable insights
- Effective communication skills; able to work cross-functionally with production and non-finance individuals
- Solid understanding of inventory processes, WIP, and cost flow in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to identify process gaps and recommend practical improvements
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, basic data analysis)
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, production-driven environment
EDUCATION & TRAINING:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- 1+ years of experience in manufacturing cost accounting or plant/operations accounting, including WIP management and production order costing.
- Strong GAAP knowledge; proven ability to design/ operate internal controls and to support external/internal audits.
- Proficient in MS Excel and other Microsoft products
- Experience with variance analysis and KPI reporting in an operations environment
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience with Infor LN (or similar ERP) for production orders, inventory, and costing a plus.
- Background in modular manufacturing or engineered to order environments with established shop QA/QC processes.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Position is primarily desk-based (80–95%) with computer work; occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds; performs activities including sitting, standing, bending, crouching, repetitive motions, and use of fingers; requires visual acuity for analyzing data and operating a computer; primarily inside work with occasional exposure to shop/manufacturing floor conditions; use of safety glasses and other PPE is required while on the shop floor; steel-toe boots required on all job sites.
