Liberty Dental Plan is seeking a highly skilled and strategically minded Director, Pricing & Analytics to lead the development, execution, and governance of Liberty’s dental pricing methodologies across Medicare, Exchange, and Commercial lines of business, with a primary focus on the Medicare dental program.
This is a high‑impact executive role responsible for delivering accurate, defensible, and strategically aligned pricing outcomes grounded in analytical rigor, utilization trends, and financial context. You will lead a talented pricing team, and personally contributes to model creation, calibration, and analytical development while partnering closely with Actuarial, Finance, and Client Services to align assumptions, improve methodologies, and strengthen data-driven decision making.
What You Will Do
Pricing Model Leadership
Lead the design, creation, and calibration of dental pricing models that accurately reflect population risk, benefit structures, and geographic cost differences.
Deliver client‑specific rates supported by logical, data‑driven rationales that connect experience, utilization, and population dynamics to final pricing recommendations.
Team Leadership & Development
Oversee and mentor the pricing team, fostering analytical growth and consistency in the use of standardized templates and frameworks while allowing flexibility for unique client situations.
Cross‑Functional Partnership
Collaborate with Actuarial and Finance to align pricing assumptions with trend, retention, and margin targets, ensuring defensible and financially sound rate outcomes.
Partner with Client Services to evaluate the financial implications of client requests, benefit changes, and network variations, ensuring pricing reflects both analytical accuracy and business strategy.
Executive Communication & Narrative Development
Translate complex analytical findings into clear narratives for leadership presentations, rate reviews, and client discussions.
Process Optimization & Methodology Improvement
Evaluate and refine pricing processes, methodologies, and deliverables to improve efficiency, reduce rework, and accelerate turnaround times while maintaining quality.
Advanced Analytical Capabilities
Access and interpret data from SQL, Power BI, and Excel data models to validate assumptions and support analytical conclusions.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This role combines hands‑on pricing expertise with analytical leadership. The Director is both a technical modeler and a strategic thinker—capable of building complex dental pricing models while translating data into clear business logic.
This position requires fluency in actuarial reasoning and business communication, with the ability to anticipate how changes in population mix, utilization, and geography will impact financial outcomes. The Director serves as a connector across departments, ensuring pricing decisions are consistent, defensible, and aligned with Liberty’s goals.
What You Bring
Education
Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, economics, or a related field required.
Advanced degree (e.g., MBA) or actuarial credentials (ASA/FSA) preferred.
Experience
Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in dental or health insurance pricing, underwriting, or actuarial analytics, including direct responsibility for model creation, rate development, and analytical validation.
Minimum 5 years leading analytical or pricing teams with demonstrated success mentoring staff in analytical reasoning and professional judgment.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
Expert proficiency in Excel modeling, including advanced formulas, array functions, data validation, and scenario analysis.
Working knowledge of SQL and ability to interpret data from Power BI dashboards and other analytical tools.
Demonstrated capability to build, refine, and calibrate pricing models that reflect population risk, trend, and benefit relativities (dental experience highly preferred).
Deep understanding of claims and utilization data, including experience rating, normalization, and trend decomposition.
Strong grasp of pricing methodologies, risk assessment, and margin analysis for dental insurance products.
Ability to interpret actuarial assumptions and integrate them into practical pricing decisions.
Excellent analytical storytelling skills—able to explain rate logic and financial impact to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Proven success in developing and coaching teams to build analytical maturity and critical‑thinking skills.
Experience collaborating with Actuarial, Finance, and Client Services to align pricing strategies with organizational objectives.
Familiarity with Python or interest in automation is a plus.
