About the role

Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Program Coordinator to support our After-School Programming.

The Program Director will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.

Harlem Children’s Zone’s high school afterschool and summer enrichment programs provide year-round programming to develop students’ cognitive and non-cognitive skills to succeed in college, career, and life. Through various academic and enrichment-based activities, we prepare students to become productive, self-sufficient adults and agents of change in their communities. These three programs (Academy for Arts and Civic Engagement, Employment and Technology Center, and Countee Cullen Community Center) are located in Central Harlem and serve over 600 high school students annually from local public and charter high schools. Embedded into the program operating model is Advocacy Case Management (ACM) which provides a tailored holistic approach for each student, connecting them with supportive stakeholders within our comprehensive pipeline of services. Key programming components include academics, enrichment activities, life exposures, and health and wellness education, ensuring our youth are prepared for college, careers, and adulthood.

We are seeking a Director of HCZ High School Afterschool Programs to oversee programming and lead the day-to-day operations of our high school afterschool and summer enrichment programs. The Director will be responsible for managing a large team of youth development professionals toward achieving programmatic goals, outcomes, and critical priorities. Some key priorities are as follows:

• Maintain and increase student enrollment, retention, and active participation to ensure the program is making an impact at scale
• Ensure seamless connectedness to and through the HCZ pipeline of services by working closely with other departments and stakeholders
• Develop high-quality youth development programming and establish inclusive learning environments
• Oversight and implementation of the HCZ Wealth Builds Initiative for high school students and their families
• Ensure college and career readiness is incorporated into the program model

The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with a strong background in youth development programming and a passion for improving and enhancing the lives of under-resourced students. The Director of HCZ High School Afterschool Programs will report to the Managing Director of HCZ’s K-12 Afterschool Programs.
