About the role

OUR MISSION & VISION. With a vision of a more resilient, interconnected, and compassionate community, Meals on Wheels of Takoma Park/Silver Spring’s mission is to nourish our community. We do this through the preparation and delivery of healthy, delicious meals to our homebound neighbors and other programs that support our community.

OUR CULTURE. In this workplace, we are focused on and guided by our mission and our vision. We are honest, kind, respectful, and encouraging; we communicate openly and directly. There is space for curiosity and innovation. We express a generosity of spirit, understanding that everyone makes mistakes and we learn from our own. We work hard, we pitch in where needed, and we trust that others are working hard, too. Our small, friendly team enjoys working together and supporting one another.

OUR ORGANIZATION & TEAM. Meals on Wheels of Takoma Park/Silver Spring is in an exciting time of growth and expansion. We are a small, lively group of dedicated nonprofit professionals, and we work closely to ensure operations run smoothly. As a direct service organization, we are very busy, but we also make room for fun. In a typical day, the morning is punctuated with friendly greetings from our volunteers coming and going as joking, laughter, and wonderful smells from the day’s meal waft in from the kitchen; afternoons are quieter after meals have been delivered and we focus on our respective projects.  We work hard, and our work is imbued with shared camaraderie.

THE POSITION. The Operations Manager (OM) is responsible for day-to-day operations, ensuring that the office runs smoothly to support our programs, welcoming culture, and long-term growth. Specifically, the OM is responsible for success, whether completing the work themselves or delegating to external consultants, as appropriate, in the areas of:

·       Bookkeeping and Finance

·       Technology Integration

·       Human Resources

·       Legal Compliance

·       Office Administration

The successful individual in this role is exceptionally well organized as well as curious, communicative, hard-working, empathetic, solution-oriented, and cheerful. You take pride in being consistent in your work and you are able to see how pieces and process flows fit together. You work independently to accomplish regular administrative tasks, closely with the Executive Director (ED), and collaboratively with our small team. Your role is critical: you provide inspired leadership as well as the development and implementation of operational policies and procedures. You promote our organizational culture in your daily words, attitude, and actions, understanding the superlative value of organizational culture as you nurture an environment of trust, diversity, and inclusion within the team. You are truly excited about what we are doing, how we’ve grown, and what we can continue to become as an organization.
