Job Summary

Comcast Technology and Product Experience (TPX) is seeking a Senior Android Developer to join our Connected Living Client Application Engineering team. This group is responsible for customer-facing mobile, web, set-top box, and voice application development for Comcast's Home Security, Home Network
Management and Internet of Things product offerings. This includes the native iOS and Android Xfinity application, which manages our cloud-enabled gateway for millions of homes and is expanding internationally. Learn more about us at https://www.xfinity.com/apps. Check out the Xfinity Android app!

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

In this role you will collaborate with other developers, designers, testers, and business managers to build

features and core components of the consolidated Xfinity app. You must be able to pick up new technologies

quickly, be a strong team player, and rapidly adapt to changing business and customer demands. You will be

a part of Online Peace of Mind (OPOM), a full stack stream team with iOS, Android, Platform and QA

engineers whose focus is developing features used within the Xfinity app. These features are used by

Comcast and syndicated partners (Shaw, Cox, etc.) customers as well. The ideal candidate will have significant

experience building native Android applications that rely on multiple web services, asynchronous data

messaging, and applications that operate at scale (thousands to millions of users).

Our team

OPOM owns and manages two important segments of the Xfinity app:

1. Digital Security -This feature takes care of our customers in terms of security and safety while

connected to Xfinity home network by applying safe browsing, preventing multiple threats,

malwares etc. and when they are outside the home and connected to an unsecured network (such as

café, airport etc.) by creating a VPN tunnel, so people can browse the internet worry-free with peace of

mind.

2. Family Settings – This is one of the heavily used features in the Xfinity app where users can create

multiple profiles in the app to associate with their family members, manage their connected devices,

add parental controls for younger members of the family, implement downtime schedule for kids to

limit screen time, daily usage for the family members, and many more.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • 3+ years professional experience in developing Kotlin/Android native client applications
  • 1+ years as a technical lead of at least 3 other developers (technical, not people management), for a
  • large-scale consumer facing application with at least 100K app downloads on the Play Store

Experience

  • Experience building or consuming RESTful web services
  • Fundamental understanding of the HTTP protocol and caching strategies
  • Experience driving adoption of software engineering best practices within your team
  • Experience working with an app that integrates with several internal mobile libraries
  • Experience with multiple specific Android technologies/libraries; Kotlin, Coroutines, Dagger, MVVM,
  • Espresso tests
  • Experience leading software projects with source control systems like GitHub
  • Experience maintaining Continuous Integration and Deployment pipelines or workflows

Leadership

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical challenges and solutions
  • Ability to solve ambiguous or undefined problems
  • Technical leadership throughout the design, development, testing and deployment processes of core
  • Android libraries and guidance with regards to practices, procedures and techniques
  • Presentation and advocating for architectural, design, and technical choices to inter
