WSP is currently initiating a search for an Executive Director of Transit and Rail Business Line. The candidate can sit out of any mutually WSP USA office - preferably Washington, DC/ New York, NY/ Boston, MA/ Chicago, IL. This individual will be responsible for strategic planning, business development, project management, and team leadership to deliver high-quality transit and rail solutions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the transit and rail industry, a strong network of industry contacts, and a proven track record of successful project delivery.

- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement the business line strategy in alignment with the company’s overall goals and objectives.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities in the transit and rail sectors.
- Monitor industry trends and market conditions to stay ahead of the competition.
- Business Development
- Build and maintain relationships with key clients, stakeholders, and industry partners.
- Lead proposal development, presentations, and negotiations to secure new projects.
- Represent the company at industry conferences, events, and meetings.
- Project Management
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of transit and rail projects.
- Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Manage project teams, including internal staff and external consultants.
- Team Leadership
- Mentor, develop, and manage a team of professionals in the transit and rail business line.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Promote professional development and continuous learning within the team.
- Financial Management
- Develop and manage the business line’s budget and financial performance.
- Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and business metrics.
- Ensure financial targets and profitability are achieved.
- Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure all projects comply with relevant regulations, standards, and guidelines.
- Implement and maintain quality assurance processes and procedures.
- Address any issues or challenges that arise during project execution.
- Strategic Leadership
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, or a related field.
- Minimum 20+ years of related transit/rail experience, including 10+ years of experience in leadership, project management, client services management, or business development activities for large-scale transportation clients and/or projects.
- Experience in client prepositioning activities, team (internal and external partners) and proposal development, and execution of selection interviews.
- Track record of managing and growing a technical/engineering staff and promoting a Transit/Rail Center of Excellence.
- Strong business acumen and financial management skills.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Ability to travel as needed for client meetings, site visits, and industry events.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer certification
- Masters in Engineering.
- Proven leader in developing and nurturing relationships with key clients.
