Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). GS-9 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in at least two of the following areas: (1) Assisting in gathering and organizing data for IT projects or business process studies; (2) Supporting the testing of new software, databases, or automated systems.; (3) Drafting basic technical documents, project schedules, or cost tracking reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Information Technology or Information Management. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. GS-11 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in at least two of the following areas: (1) Analyzing IT systems or business processes to identify bottlenecks and recommend workflow improvements; (2) Creating flowcharts, process maps, or technical specifications for system upgrades; (3) Tracking IT project milestones and budgets, and writing technical justifications for management.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. [remove LL.M., if unrelated] in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Information Technology or Information Management. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. GS-12 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in all of the following areas: (1) Leading the design, development, or management of business intelligence tools or automated IT systems; (2) Ensuring IT systems comply with cybersecurity requirements (such as Risk Management Frameworks or Authority to Operate); (3) Writing Statements of Work (SOW), conducting market research, or managing IT contracts and vendors.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07 for the GS-09, GS-09 for the GS-11, GS-11 for the GS-12).
