POSITION SUMMARY:

The Associate Director, R&D Executive Communications, will work under the direction of the Senior Director, R&D Executive Communications & Employee Engagement, to build an integrated communications strategy and plan and will support its execution, in line with corporate messaging and positioning. This role will support executive thought leadership and internal communications for the Chief Research Officer and work closely with the broader Corporate Affairs team to ensure an integrated approach. This role will also support employee communications and engagement for the broader Research organization in line with the enterprise communications strategy. 

The position requires a communications professional who demonstrates sound business judgment and can work closely with mid- and senior-level leaders in the organization to source information and drive effective communications and stakeholder engagement. Knowledge of R&D and love of science is essential. To be successful, the individual must possess the ability to think strategically and execute tactically, write exceptionally well, cultivate and maintain strong relationships, and remain agile as priorities and situations evolve. Must be able to successfully work in a highly matrixed organization, manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects, effectively engage and collaborate with global cross-functional teams. To be successful, this role requires significant day-to-day tactical execution. 

The position will report to the Senior Director, R&D Executive Communications & Employee Engagement and is based in Princeton, NJ.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The high-level scope of the responsibilities of the Associate Director, R&D Executive Communications, is as follows:

  • Support development and execution of the R&D communications strategy for internal and workforce engagement.
  • Supports development and execution of internal communications and thought leadership for the Chief Research Officer and works to ensure aligned communications across the R&D and enterprise thought leadership strategy.
  • Collaborate with the Corporate People & Culture team to develop communications to drive workforce engagement within the Research organization to support enterprise-wide initiative communications such as Global Patient Week, myVoice pulse surveys, etc.
  • Partner with the R&D Exec Comms & Employee Engagement team and the Corporate People & Culture team to develop standardized metrics reports (monthly, quarterly, yearly, ad hoc) to inform future communications and improve audience engagement.
  • Monitor the performance of employee communications, engaging with employees and escalating workforce issues as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated professional with a track record of delivering against integrated communications strategies. This position will play a critical role supporting C-Suite executives and therefore, must possess strong interpersonal skills and work in a collaborative spirit. The successful candidate will additionally possess excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrate a proven ability to lead communications initiatives aligned with broader company objectives; and operate within a complex, fast-paced environment. S/he must be able to collaborate with business leaders and teams and have demonstrated ability to successfully influence others. A love of science is essential.
