Description
The Assistant Director (AD), Mid-Level Acquisition & Retention ensures the growth and stability of the Foundation’s mid-level donor program, a vital source of unrestricted revenue and a feeder for major gifts. With a focus on acquiring new $1,000+ donors and retaining supporters in the $500–$999 and $1,000–$9,999 tiers, this role helps secure sustainable funding while building long-term loyalty. The AD partners with the Direct Response team to identify new mid-level prospects and provides structured onboarding and stewardship to ensure they are engaged early and effectively. By expanding and retaining the mid-level pool, the AD strengthens the Foundation’s financial foundation today while cultivating a base of loyal donors for tomorrow’s transformational giving.
Qualifications
Minimum EducationBachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or other
related field

Minimum Work Experience
4 years of technical development experience with a proven record in lower level major gifts, high end annual gifts or special event execution, or managing a component of the marketing program preferably in a healthcare or academic setting (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge
Strong written and verbal communication skills (including phone skills such as warm tone, good speaking cadence, clear and articulate speech)
Effective interpersonal skills that demonstrate poise, tact, patience, and courtesy
Must demonstrate initiative, energy, confidence, strong donor service attitude, and willingness to contribute to a teamwork-driven environment
High levels of professionalism, compassion, creativity and integrity
Proven experience in successfully building and cultivating donor relationships
A willingness to work collaboratively to produce fundraising strategies and tactics
Proven sense for developing tactics to meet goals and objectives
Ability to manage time and task completion effectively
Strong familiarity with The Raiser's Edge software and/or other donor-related platforms
Functional Accountabilities
Fundraising
- Manage applicable giving programs, including strategy, budget, communications, solicitations, and oversight of data tracking.
- Executes donor strategy effectively through phone, email, mail, and face-to-face communication.
- Conducts meaningful touches or face-to-face donor meetings per year.
- Renews 80% of assigned donors on an annual basis.
- Secures new or upgraded annual donors at $5,000+ annually.
- Identifies Major Gifts and Planned Giving prospects annually and contribute to successful transfer of donors.
- Learns about the programs of Children’s National and effectively communicate the mission to donors.
- Conducts oneself in a professional, friendly, and truthful manner with donors and colleagues.
- Researches, identifies, and promotes hand-off of high capacity donors to the appropriate Foundation Gift Officer.
- Updates fundraising database with contact notes, new information about donors and outcomes.
