Department Profile:
The WM and U.S. Banks Financial Crimes Risk Team is embedded within the Firm’s business line. It is responsible for identifying, assessing, and escalating potential money laundering and reputational risk issues associated with higher risk client types. The WM and U.S. Banks Financial Crimes Risk Team is considered the first line of defense and supports the onboarding and existing customers, enhanced due diligence, and negative news processes for Morgan Stanley.
Position Summary:
The Data Analytics and Reporting Team (DART) team is seeking an experienced candidate who will provide end-to-end metrics and reporting support for the Wealth Management Financial Crimes Risk Department. You will be working in a challenging and data-driven environment focused on high quality detailed operational reporting to senior stakeholders on the management of the FRC team, as well as continuous process improvement. The role requires regular interaction with senior leadership within FCR and other areas in the Firm.
The ideal candidate will have experience in managing complex strategic projects, have expertise in data management and reporting as well as good strategic thinking and communication skills to produce effective monitoring of existing and emerging risks across the operational environment of the FCR team.
The candidate will be responsible for collecting, processing, and analyzing data from various sources. You will be expected to work independently as well as part of a team to execute the full cycle of quantitative analysis. This includes sourcing raw data, transforming data as necessary and using data to draw sound conclusions and help drive decision making. In addition to data management, the ability to reach conclusions quickly and consistently will be critical to being successful in this role. The candidate’s primary responsibilities will include:
- Structure large data sets to find usable information
- Create and validate monthly metrics and reports presented to senior leaders of the FCR team and firm leadership
- Analyze business management metrics to identify variances, gaps and issues for escalation
- Communicate with individual subject matter experts on outliers or threshold breaches to obtain additional information and commentary to be included in the metrics reporting
- Provide relevant ad-hoc data to teams outside FCR and for other major initiatives
- Maintain and create relevant documentation for new and existing reporting processes
- Respond to regulatory and audit requests for information
- Assist in the establishment of governance for reporting, tracking of risks and issues, project status and deliverables
- Identify opportunities for improvement in the metrics and reporting process
Required Skills:
- Very strong analytical, quantitative and critical thinking skills
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint and SQL for data analysis related tasks
- Experience visualizing data for reporting and end user analysis, using tools like Tableau and PowerBI
- At least 5 years of experience in a data analysis/reporting/programming role
- Bachelor's degree preferably in a STEM discipline such as computer science, statistics, mathematics, economics, physics and computational finance
- Experience analyzing, cleaning and aggregating data from multiple data sets and data sources such as excel, databases and SharePoint sites using analytical tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and comfortable interfacing with senior personnel on highly sensitive issues
- Ability to proactively identify, analyze and improve upon existing processes for optimization
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability for work product; ability to manage competing priorities
