About the Job:
The Director-Clinical Informatics serves as a strategic leader and critical liaison between clinical operations and Information Technology. This role is responsible for driving the effective implementation, adoption, and continuous optimizations of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and related clinical technologies. By combining clinical expertise with informatics and technology acumen, the Director ensures that systems support safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.This position leads interdisciplinary efforts to align clinical workflows with system capabilities, optimize data integrity, and promote the meaningful use of health information systems. The Director also plays a key role in change management, end-user training, governance, and cross-functional coordination to support enterprise-wide health IT initiative
Roles and Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary administrator for the EHR system, ensuring functionality aligns with clinical workflows and regulatory requirements.
Manage user access, security roles, and permissions in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
Configure templates, order sets, alerts, and clinical documentation tools to enhance usability and standardization.
Act as a liaison between clinicians and EHR vendors or internal technical teams to resolve issues and implement updates.
Collaborate with clinical and operational leaders to identify system enhancements, performance gaps, and opportunities for innovation.
Provide Tier 2 support to resolve EHR-related problems escalated by the help desk.
Conduct EHR system testing, validation, and documentation during upgrades, patches, and new feature rollouts.
Develop and deliver training materials and sessions for clinical users on system functionality and best practices.
Participate in data governance and quality initiatives to ensure accuracy and integrity of clinical data.
Monitor and analyze system usage, performance metrics, and user feedback to drive continuous improvement.
Stay current with industry standards, best practices, and emerging technologies in clinical informatics and healthcare IT.
Serve as an integral part of the clinical team in developing best practices and ensuring high quality clinical care delivery.
Education/Experience/Skill Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in health information management, Health Informatics, IT, or related field or nursing degree (required).
Five or more years’ experience in health information management, Health Informatics, IT or related field.
Strong understanding of clinical workflows and healthcare documentation standards.
Knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH, and EHR compliance requirements.
Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to train, support, and collaborate with multidisciplinary clinical teams Must be highly proficient with the full Microsoft Office suite, especially regarding advanced Excel functions and PowerPoint. Must have experience with Smartsheet and with policy compendium oversight.
