JOB TITLE:
Instructional Designer
JOB PURPOSE:
The Instructional Designer is part of the Instructional Design team in the Ellbogen Center for Teaching and Learning, an agile instructional design team led by the Associate Director of Online and Digital Learning (ODL). This position will in be crucial in developing and delivering high-quality, innovative, and effective online courses. You will use your instructional design expertise to ensure the team's success in meeting organizational goals and producing exceptional training content. This role requires a deep understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
85% Instructional Design and Course Development:
- In collaboration with faculty: develop, test, and maintain courses primarily in online and hybrid delivery modes, including attention to issues such as content sequencing, the flow of information, UDL, and the relevancy of media and other technologies.
- In collaboration with faculty; design, develop and implement electronic instructional materials (e.g., animations, interactive elements, simulations, video, data analytics, etc.) using appropriate content authoring and management tools. as appropriate. (e.g., Adobe Suite, Camtasia Studio, Zoom, HTML5, Canvas, Cidi Labs Design Tools, etc.)
- Design and implement modern instructional design and engaging user experiences while incorporating ADA Section 508 guidelines.
- Develop, manage, and adhere to course development schedules while communicating effectively with stakeholders and colleagues
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment within the Instructional Design Team.
15% Training, Research, and Other Duties:
- Work collaboratively with the ODL team to plan and develop online training materials to meet departmental needs and support faculty, staff, and student learning.
- Work collaboratively in individual and group training sessions on educational techniques and technologies that enhance student learning experiences.
- Support faculty by providing consultations on research-based instructional strategies, gamification, interactive applications, animations, and information visualization.
- Actively seek opportunities to expand knowledge and expertise in instructional design principles, project management, and professional development.
- Contribute to additional duties as assigned by the instructional design team lead.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:
We would encourage hybrid work for this position but this position is eligible for remote work and/or a flexible work schedule.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree, preferably with an educational focus. An equivalency of education and experience may be considered.
Experience: 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. At least one year of experience using multimedia training software.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree, or equivalent in educational technology, instructional design, teaching, or a related field. (One year of work experience may be substituted for each year of education)
- Previous experience in agile instructional design in a higher education setting.
- Experience with Instructure Canvas (Learning Management System).
- Familiarity with course quality improvement standards such as Quality Matters.
- Knowledge of graphic design principles in an instructional design context.
- Proficiency in scripting, interactive web tools, or application development.
