Earlier this year, the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Historic Preservation Office (THPO) with the assistance of the Ziibiwing Center and the Office of Grants and Contracts, applied for a National Association of Tribal Historic Preservation Officers grant to hire two interns to assist the THPO with historic preservation. Historic preservation can be achieved in many ways including preserving the buildings at the Mt. Pleasant Indian Industrial Boarding School, protecting cultural landscapes and sacred sites such as the Sanilac Petroglyphs, and by consulting with Federal agencies for undertakings on our Tribal and ancestral lands when Federal funds are used. This work would also involve supporting the Michigan Anishinaabek Cultural Preservation and Repatriation Alliance and Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.

These intern positions are for a total of 20 hours a week, for 12 weeks, compensated at $15 an hour, and paid by Service Agreement.  If you are interested, please email mLhadden@sagchip.org with a resume and explain why you are interested.  The deadline is Friday, August 15, 2025.  This first-call is for two interns for September, October & November 2025.  Future interns will be needed for December 2025, January & February and March, April & May 2026.
