Who Are We Looking For?
The Emerging Technology Analysis Group (ETAG) at ORNL seeks applicants for our Emerging and Disruptive Technology Analyst position. We are looking for candidates with experience in analytic writing and intelligence analysis, with a particular emphasis on emerging and disruptive technologies (EDT). Our group is in ORNL’s Field Intelligence Operations Division (FIOD) within the National Security Sciences Directorate (NSSD).
Reporting to the group leader for ETAG, this position analyzes unclassified and classified information, produces written products, and presents results to audiences with disparate backgrounds. The successful candidate will share knowledge about emerging technologies in our areas of interest as well as propose new areas to pursue. They will also have a broad curiosity about mission-focused science and technology analysis emphasizing US economic and national security.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform unclassified and classified analysis to identify threats and vulnerabilities engendered by emerging and disruptive technologies.
- Interact with subject matter experts (SME) from NSSD and other ORNL directorates/divisions in technical areas including:
- Quantum information sciences,
- Artificial intelligence and machine learning,
- Biotechnology,
- High-performance computing,
- Semiconductors, and
- Advanced materials and manufacturing.
- Generate analytical assessments and products on emerging and disruptive technology issues that can be shared with peers, management, and sponsors.
- Produce peer-reviewed papers and briefings of both unclassified and classified analytical assessments regarding threats, vulnerabilities, and mitigations.
- Present both unclassified and classified briefings regarding analytical assessments.
- Interact and collaborate with government agencies and members of the national security community.
- Abide by all environmental, safety, health and quality requirements and implement practices per ORNL’s Standards-based Management System (SBMS).
- Maintain a strong commitment to the implementation of the Directorate’s values and ethics.
- Occasional domestic travel is required.

Basic Qualifications:
- BA or BS in economics, intelligence analysis, liberal arts or foreign language, political science, physics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, or another relevant field and five (5) years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience with Intelligence Community Directive (ICD) standards and procedures as well as structured analytic techniques. <
