Position Summary
Lead and evolve the internal Legal and Compliance function and team. Develop scalable strategies, processes and communications to support the next phase of the Company’s growth. Partner with Finance and internal teams on internal controls management.
Essential Functions:
- Lead and coach the internal team to deliver consistent, high-quality services/support. Determine resource needs to ensure the bandwidth and expertise required to effectively support business needs.
- Manage and consult with external legal firms on a variety of legal and compliance matters to determine strategies and execute responses and required actions. Advise and align executive leadership on decisions and arrangements that bind the Company.
- Monitor federal, state, local, and/or international laws and regulations. Partner with internal departments and external partners to ensure compliance within all applicable areas including but not limited to FDA, data privacy, and information security.
- Collaborate with internal teams to assist with vendor engagements including negotiations and determining business and legal contractual terms while also ensuring overall compliance.
- Collaborate with internal departments to create, implement and provide ongoing management of legal and compliance-related policies, programs, and processes. Develop and execute internal communications and training to provide guidance to the organization.
- Lead team to facilitate related licensure and other statutory requirements as well as ensure corporate Direct, and education and collaborate with internal departments to develop and implement processes to ensure operational needs are met while the Company remains compliant internationally.
- Partner with executive leadership and Finance to assist with internal controls management.
- Evolve data management processes; maintain and track legal and compliance documentation. Optimize the use of software and tools to streamline related functions.
- Liaison with leaders within the US and China teams to maximize collaboration opportunities and support international expansion initiatives.
Minimum Requirements:
- 10+ years’ internal corporate legal and regulatory compliance experience; global experience is a plus.
- 5+ years’ experience building and leading an internal legal and compliance function for a high-growth company.
- E-commerce, optical, and/or manufacturing industry experience highly desired.
- Knowledge of FDA compliance requirements and experience with developing and executing internal frameworks and processes. Knowledge of ISO quality processes.
- Exceptional leadership competencies and experience. Experienced at building and leading teams within high-growth companies.
- Successful track record of assessing, developing, and implementing robust and scalable policies, programs and processes.
- Keeps abreast of industry best practices and knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
- Ability to read and speak Chinese (Mandarin) strongly desired.
- JD Degree Required. Admitted to practice law in any state (preferably California) and in good standing.

As of 01/01/2023, the expected salary range for this position is $250,000 to $280,000 USD annually. Actual pay within this range will be based upon several factors, including without limitation education, work experience, certifications, geographic pay differentials, market conditions, and other business and organizational needs. The Company anticipates that the reasonably expected salary for this position could change in the future and, therefore, the Company retains the right to change, modify, or revisit the salary range for the position for various reasons, including the Company’s busine
