Job Summary:
The Peer Health Educator (PHE) Student Assistant will serve as a champion for health and wellness on campus. The primary role of this position is to educate and provide accurate health-related information for students. The PHE will assist staff personnel with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion programs. Programs may cover topics such as reproductive health, nutrition and physical fitness, mental health and stress management, and alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. The PHE will serve as a liaison between the Student Health Center and the campus community. The PHE will be a health-conscious individual modeling a healthy lifestyle and providing a positive role model image for other students.
Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision, duties include but not limited to:
- Provide accurate health-related information to students on a variety of topics, including reproductive health, mental health, nutrition, and substance use.
- Promote Student Health Center services and relevant campus resources through outreach efforts.
- Serve as a liaison between the Student Health Center and the campus community.
- Assist with the development, coordination, and execution of health promotion events, presentations, and workshops.
- Collaborate with Health Promotion staff to design Peer Health Educator (PHE)-led programs
- Create and distribute educational materials such as flyers, posters, and pamphlets.
- Ensure literature is accurate, appropriate, and reflective of the needs of the CSUSB student population.
Administrative Support
- Assist with clerical duties, such as filing, organizing materials, and delivering items around campus.
- Maintain a clean and organized working environment within the Health Promotion Department.
Team Participation
- Attend all required trainings
- Attend regular team meetings, workshops, and campus partner events.
Professional and Personal Development
- Participate in continuous learning and development activities to enhance health promotion skills.
- Act as a visible role model for healthy behaviors and wellness practices.
Other Duties as Assigned
- Perform additional tasks as needed to support the goals of the Student Health Center and Health Promotion team.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
- Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student.
Required Qualifications:
- Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
- Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
- International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card
Preferred Qualifications:
- Maintain a 3.0 semester and cumulative GPA.
- Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA standards
- Public speaking and interpersonal communication skills
- Dependable, reliable, respectful
- Ability to work independently and as a team
- Computer skills, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- A strong desire to share health information
- Demonstrate a sincere interest in helping others in the areas of health
- Demonstrate a healthy lifestyle
Special Conditions:
- Must commit for a full academic year
- Must commit to a minimum of 8 hours per week, anticipated hiring hours is 10 hours per week
- Must be able to attend required training
Compensation and Benefits:
Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.90 per hour.
The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors.
Position Information:
Work status: Part-Time, Temporary, Seasonal
Academic year available hours: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm).
Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm).
