POSITION PURPOSE
The Student Success Manager (SSM) reports to the Vice President of Student Affairs (VPSA). The SSM collaborates with program directors, college deans, faculty, staff, and functional areas on student retention, persistence, and attrition. The SSM is responsible for overseeing and managing strategies, processes, assessments, and initiatives that enhance student retention, persistence, and student satisfaction.
Under the direction of the VPSA, the SSM position requires outreach to indicated students and collaboration with college deans, academic departments, and functional area departments to support educational efforts and retention while developing reporting systems for collecting, analyzing, and disseminating retention data to all stakeholders. The SSM creates and manages strategic direction for student success initiatives aimed at student retention, attrition, and persistence for graduate healthcare student populations. This position is responsible for expanding current retention strategies, processes, semester reporting, assessment metrics, and analytics while adhering to RMUoHP’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values while maintaining current university standards and expectations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
New enrollment engagement and support (enrollment acceptance to add/drop deadline)
- Develop, maintain, and enhance relationships with colleagues, advisors, staff, and faculty to support student enrollment and success
- Track departmental touch-points for new student preparedness checklists (new student email creation, RMU 101 orientation completion, library books ordered, Okta, laptop) and maintain strong collaboration with Enrollment Management
- Provide outreach and assistance to late enrollments and other at-risk students as needed (i.e., RMU101 participation, program referrals, etc.)
- Support and enhance new enrollment initiatives and touch-point tracking
- Provide engagement reporting and presentations to pertinent academic departments and administration
Nurturing Student Success
- Develop a holistic, individualized plan for success and implement proactive strategies focused on student academic success and persistence. Refer students to appropriate campus resources, groups, services, workshops, and activities based on their individual needs
- Provide ongoing individualized outreach to students based on academic, financial, and socio-emotional risk factors
- Facilitate communications via email and online messaging to engage students and respond to individual questions within 24 hours of initial contact
- Participate in monthly meetings with the Student Affairs Leadership Team and Program Directors to discuss student success needs/concerns and create action plans
- Manage the university-wide “The Student Experience” resource to assist in institutional knowledge and remove barriers to getting students the assistance they need
Early Alert System
- Create and implement a university-wide Early-Alert System
- Identify At-Risk student populations
- Define and establish baseline indicators for alert systems such as:
- Baseline attendance variations
- Failing grades
- Behavioral concerns
- Probationary statuses
- Life event/change
- Unresponsive to outreach efforts
- Define outreach/routes of communication (students & faculty)
- Monitor and report identified At-Risk students to VPSA and Program Directors
Withdrawal & Re-Entry Management
- Manage intent-to-withdraw student notifications through individual outreach efforts and tracking for mitigation and solutions
- Manage standardized processes to track, support, and engage with students in temporary withdrawal status and re-entry students
Student Events & Engagement
- Assists with new student orientations, commencement, and other student events to bolster relationships with enrolled students
- Manages semesterly Student Success Webinars
- Coordinates efforts for annual Added- Value surveys and courses
- All other duties as assigned by the VPSA
Assessment
- Work closely with the Registrar and Office of Institutional Effectiveness for data collection and reports
- Track data for patterns of persistence with students using disaggregated data
- Collaborate with VPSA and Provost on assessment findings to pertinent program directors, college deans, and Administration.
