Production Manager (Food Manufacturing)

Mid South Baking, LLC, our subsidiary is a high speed bread manufacturer located in Bryan, TX near Texas Highway 2818. We are seeking a Production Manager.

Summary: Manages and supervises the manufacturing department and schedules production to meet customer or company requirements. Develops and manages the departmental budget and coordinates training.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervises and manages the department and personnel by supervising front line supervisors and communicating any procedural changes, monitoring payroll for line personnel, conducting employee evaluations, planning and organizing activities, coordinating and attending training seminars, maintaining labor relations, ensuring effective communication with other departments and planning for the implementation of new products and processes.
• Schedules production by developing production schedules, adjusting schedules depending on customer requirements, scheduling production lines for maximum output, planning for the testing of new product, equipment and processes and communicating with other departments.
• Manages the departmental budget by developing a budget for labor based on projected sales, including new equipment parts in the budget, monitoring labor, supplies, overtime and temporary labor accounts, reviewing payroll accounts, coordinating with accounting on costing new products and developing cost reductions within the department.
• Responsible for Food Safety and Quality Prerequisite programs as assigned by the plant’s SQF practitioner.
• Ensures operational staff meet food safety and quality requirements.
• Performs other duties by developing and coordinating training procedures for personnel, maintaining accurate records, managing inventory and performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education/Certifications:

• Bachelor’s or Engineering degree is highly preferred and/or have completed advanced engineering course work
• Valid Driver’s License

Experience:

• Five or more years experience is required, preferably in bakery operations.
• Experience and / or certification in SQF will be strongly considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Advanced knowledge and understanding of HACCP, GMPs and SQF.
• Knowledge of continuous improvement process training and skills
• Demonstrated leadership and team building skills to effectively supervise professional and non-professional staff. (if applicable)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge and understanding of all relevant federal and state laws, regulations, and operating guidelines.
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends as required.
• Ability to interface with PCs, and understand all software packages specifically used by C.H. Guenther.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
• Must have good analytical and reasoning skills.
• Must be able to interpret and apply all technical literature necessary to support job requirements.
• Knowledgeable of all regulatory policies as they apply to C.H. Guenther.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Work requires supervising and monitoring work performance through the assistance of other supervisors or administrators, including making final decisions on hiring and disciplinary actions, evaluating program/work objectives and effectiveness, and realigning work and staffing assignments, as needed.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

• Work involves daily exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, humidity, darkness, and/or noise.
• Work environment involves daily exposure to physical risks, such as working around mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards.
• Position requires the ability to stand; sit at a desk; walking around office and plant; lifting and carrying packages up to 50 pounds; utilizing fine dexterity; and reaching, kneeling, crawling and twisting to inspect equipment. Also requires the ability to see; hear; and communicate with associates as well as others by utilizing professional etiquette.
