Sr. Manager, SEC Reporting
23andMeAbout the role
Reporting to the Director, Financial Operations, the Sr. Manager, SEC Reporting will have a critical and high-profile role in developing and executing SEC reporting and technical accounting processes, reporting on and resolving issues, working through compliance/disclosure matters with key stakeholders, and engaging with the CFO and the Board governance committees, as appropriate. The candidate must be a leader, have strong experience with public company and SEC reporting standards, be hands-on and detail-oriented, possess strong technical and communication skills, and be an excellent collaborator. This is a hands-on individual contributor position with responsibility for all SEC Reporting activities.

What You'll Do
- Coordination and preparation of quarterly reports (10-Q), annual reports (10-K), earnings releases and other current reports (8-K) as needed
- Work with various personnel and departments to collect and evidence information and input into the above referenced reports; coordinate, review and collect comments on the various drafts; and prepare and/or archive support files for all disclosures
- Complete all relevant disclosure checklists and reporting questionnaires, and review the appropriateness of disclosures
- Responsible for completeness and accuracy of external reporting controls to ensure SOX compliance
- Responsible for the accuracy and completeness of XBRL tagging on filings as required
- Collaborate on the quarterly reporting time table and key dates, and monitor progress against reporting cycle milestones
- Continue to streamline, improve and further automate the SEC reporting process
- Contribute to technical accounting research and documentation of new accounting guidance, policies and procedures, specifically as it relates to high interest areas like revenue accounting, stock-based compensation, leases, and equity
- Monitor the development and applicability of emerging accounting and reporting rules being deliberated by the SEC, US GAAP, PCAOB, or other regulations and assess new accounting pronouncements for applicability
- Assist with the establishment, documentation, and maintenance of company accounting policies
- Interact and support external auditors, internal/external SEC counsel and legal advisors
- Participate in special projects, improve processes and assist with documentation and compliance with SOX
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in an appropriate field
- CPA is required
- Total of at least 5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Mix of professional experiences, including experience in Big 4 public accounting firms (at least 3 years) and experience at a public company in an SEC role
- Strong command of SEC reporting standards and requirements, as well as experience with technical research and XBRL tagging
- Extensive experience with SEC filing software such as Active Disclosure or Workiva to automate as much of the SEC reporting process as possible
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills working with a variety of stakeholders at different levels across various departments
- Exceptional planning and organization skills
- A proactive approach to problem identification and collaborative solutions, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact and build relationships across all levels of the organization
- Ability to work independently, complete work timely, and work well as a team member
- Flexibility, strong organization and problem-solving skills
- Meticulous and superior attention to detail
- Ability to work from 23andMe's Sunnyvale, CA office a minimum of 2 days per week
Strongly Preferred
- Advanced technical accounting knowledge of US GAAP and SOX 404, and experience with writing technical memos and policies
- Experience with NetSuite is preferred
