Overview
NYPL’s School-Age Programs & Services team seeks an enthusiastic candidate to fill the role of the School-Age Programs Associate. The candidate must have excellent organizational and communication skills and experience working in STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math). The School-Age Programs Associate will work with the School-Age Programs & Services Department and related children’s services teams at NYPL as well as Children’s Librarians to manage and maintain School-Age program tools and resources.
They will support the School-Age Programs & Services Department’s initiatives with a focus on public libraries and STEAM programming. This position will contribute to developing new circulating STEAM kits, will help maintain these kits, will develop an improved system of STEAM Kits organization, and will contribute to other programming resources for NYPL staff working with school-age children.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain an improved STEAM Kits organizational system
  • Develop and maintain multiple STEAM Kits across different library branches
  • Support NYPL staff in using STEAM Kits and other STEAM resources
  • Conduct research on STEAM education and best practices to inform our work
  • Collaborate with the Children’s Department in supporting programming resources for NYPL staff
  • Assist the Children's Department with system-wide initiatives, including Summer at the Library, on an as-needed basis
  • Work with the School-Age Manager, Library staff, and community partners to promote NYPL children’s programs and services.
  • Learn the goals of the School-Age Programs & Services Department and our philosophy for working with children ages 6-12, inclusive of NYPL’s strategic vision and our DEIA goals as they relate to programming

Required Education, Experience & Skills

Required Education & Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, technology, child development, or other related field
Required Experience
  • Experience working with children ages 6-12 and families
  • Experience with STEAM education
  • Experience keeping meticulous records, archiving, or other related organizational experience
Required Skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines and wear different hats
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Interest in literacy, childhood development, and STEAM education
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated reliability and flexibility  
  • Demonstrated team player

Work Environment
