Occupational Summary
DukeMag seeks a summer intern with strong video storytelling experience to create content for our magazine's website. A strong candidate is experienced in long and short video ideation and creation and will have a varied portfolio of work in video writing, shooting and editing.
The DukeMag intern will work 20 hours weekly in-office from 9-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at our offices in downtown Durham (One City Center). The intern would also remotely attend our magazine staff meeting on Thursday mornings and our Monday morning all-staff meetings for our larger marketing/communications/stewardship team.
The position reports to Digital Content Editor Rebecca Baldwin and DukeMag editor Andrea Billups. There are also writing opportunities for our quarterly magazine, but this is primarily a video role on our team. Please submit a resume with direct links to your video and writing portfolio.
Responsibilities:
Utilize reporting and writing skills on behalf of Duke Alumni and Development’s (AED) quarterly magazine and the Duke Magazine website.
Contribute story ideas for Duke Magazine and attend all Duke Magazine meetings to collaborate with staffers on content and production needs.
Utilize skills in researching, reporting, interviewing, news writing, editing, digital and print content creation and social media ideation. All of these learning experiences provide learning opportunities to allow the intern to create content for a future portfolio for the student while benefiting AED’S Marketing and Communications team.
The Student Intern works onsite up to two days a week in our One City Center offices in Durham and remotely as needed, attending meetings via ZooM (Monday to Friday).

Skills:
Basic understanding of news reporting and narrative writing style
Understanding of AP style
Interest in magazine-style storytelling
Interest in digital content creation (including learning about audio and video)
Ability to work on deadlines
Desire to work as a part of a team and contribute stories to our magazine and website
Desire to learn about the functions of a university publication and its role in serving marketing and engagement goals
