About the role

Occupational Summary

This position reports to the OIT Application Development team which builds and maintains web applications for customers throughout Duke University. The successful applicant will have experience with or knowledge of web application development & the software development lifecycle and must have experience with python, HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The applicant must be willing to work in an agile team environment and communicate effectively with teammates, stakeholders and Duke staff.

Work Performed

This is a position to continue development of Duke Code+ projects and assist with moving these projects to production. This will involve working with OIT staff & Duke stakeholders to identify specific objectives, designing solutions and modify the existing code base to implement Duke software standards, develop new features and address existing issues. The work will involve both high level design as well as software development using Python, HTML, CSS and Javascript. The applicant must also have working familiarity with gitlab and Docker. Specific activities:

  • Collaborate with other developers
  • Employ agile principles to research, design and develop software solutions for business needs
  • Troubleshoot and optimize user interfaces
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

  • Interest in developing strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Interest in problem tracking/resolution
  • Experience with or knowledge of web markup and styling languages (HTML, CSS)
  • Understanding of version management and source control systems, particularly git & gitlab
  • Ability to continuously learn and apply new technologies
  • Motivated, focused and self-guiding; works well on a small team

Preferred:

  • Knowledge about university course registration information
  • Experience or knowledge of containerization, specifically Docker
  • Experience with generatiove AI applications using RAG
  • Understanding of JavaScript programming language
  • Interest in learning software development lifecycle
  • Experience or knowledge of web user interface design and implementation
