Non-Duke student/Intern Research Computing

Duke’s Research Computing needs your help! Research Computing (see https://rc.duke.edu for more info) works with Duke researchers across campus to advance computational and data intensive research. Duke researchers are experts in their fields, and may, or may not be computing experts as well. We want to meet researchers “where they are” to advance their research goals with a positive and helpful attitude.
We are looking for a student who wants to work together to provide one on one support for Duke researchers, work on small projects, and generally assist the research computing staff in making Research Computing resources more accessible to all disciplines and computational skill levels across campus.
This is a great opportunity to work with skilled IT staff while connecting with Duke researchers and seeing the landscape of research at Duke.
This semester we will be focusing on launching a new research computing service in support of research with regulated data. Interested students should have experience with some of the following:
· Basic command line LINUX/UNIX and BASH scripting
· Git/Version Control
· Jupyter Notebook
· Python
· R and/or R Studio
· Website content management
· Experience with an advanced toolset for datascience is a plus
Job Duties will include:
· Developing technical documentation and sample projects in common data analysis tools
· Supporting researchers through requests and potentially Office Hours
· Developing internal systems (websites, applications, etc) or other projects working directly with other IT staff
· Testing and documenting processes and new technologies for our community
· Updating and maintaining the content for the RC website
Candidates hired for this position will earn a salary of $17-$18/hour depending on experience level.
Students who can work regular hours weekly preferred, expect 7-19.5 hours per week.
