Job Description

The right team is more than an advantage, it’s a game changer!  We are seeking an entrepreneurial, dynamic, innovative, and quality-oriented Fire Protection Senior Discipline Engineer (20 + years) to join our team of professionals!

Coffman Engineers is seeking an engineer who is passionate about their craft, wants to work on a high-functioning team, and is looking for an environment that promotes professional growth. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, have a desire to work and grow with a multi-discipline engineering team, and be willing to have fun. 

You would be providing our clients with smoke control analysis and special inspection, fire resistant construction analysis, automatic suppression system design, fire detection, alarm and mass notification system design, life-safety code analysis, egress analysis, as well as general fire protection and life safety concepts and research. Will plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the professional work as part of a major project or for a total project of moderate scope. Will supervise or coordinate the work of other professionals who assist in specific assignments. 

The position is hybrid where the staff are in-person three days a week (minimum) and have the option to work remotely two days a week. The optional remote workdays of the week are currently Thursday and Friday. These guidelines are reassessed periodically.

In this Role You Will:

 

  • Be a positive contributor to overall office and department goals, culture, and morale. 
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineering staff. Mentor and train other less experienced engineers within Coffman to pass along knowledge to them and become a resource to advance their careers in their technical, business development, and project management aspects of their careers. 
  • Pursue new business opportunities with existing and new clients, including introducing existing clients to Coffman. Utilize client connections and relationships to cross-sell other disciplines to aid in Coffman's diversification and growth.  
  • Provide project management for multiple projects including project planning, staffing, financial management, and successful project delivery.  
  • Provide fire protection consulting engineering services to a variety of potential clients, including but not limited to architects, developers, owners, government, and insurers.  
  • Provide fire and life safety code consulting for relevant CBC/ICC (IBC, IFC, IMC) codes and NFPA standards. 
  • Perform site visits and communicate with AHJ, architects, contractors, and consulting teams. 
  • Participate in and lead internal team meetings and external client meetings. 
  • Present design approaches to authorities having jurisdiction. 
  • Collaborate with multiple teams across multiple offices in a multi-discipline environment. 
  • Manage profitability of projects and maintain working relationship with clients. 
  • Perform research and documentation for internal and external distribution. 
  • Attend and participate in local and national trade organizations, such as SFPE and NFPA. 

Compensation and Benefits

  • Approximate Base Salary – $150,000 -177,500 annually based on experience.
  • Paid overtime at 1.0 times hourly rate.
  • Competitive end of year discretionary bonus based on company/team/personal performance.
  • Hybrid Work Schedule (subject to change).
  • 401k with maximum of 5% Contribution Matching for 9% Employee Contribution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited college or university in Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Sciences, or related engineering field. 
  • NICET level III / IV, or PE. 
  • Minimum twenty years of experience in the fire protection engineering/consulting profession.  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
