Senior Release Manager
Overview
The Senior Release Manager is responsible for scheduling, planning, and controlling the delivery process of a Technology project or group of Technology projects from the completion of development to production delivery stages and into production. This role works across many cross-functional teams in Technology to align schedules and drive high performance for the release process.
Responsibilities
- Manages the various processes and schedules – release, production changes, project timelines, etc. and coordinates the various projects into existing test environments/maintaining environment schedules.
- Performs active management and facilitation of issues queue from opened to closed state.
- Facilitates cross channel involvement in aligning projects and deliveries.
- Coordinates with project/application to ensure 3rd party integrations are configured & tested according to project/release schedules.
- Works with projects, engineering and QA to define upcoming environment requirements and specifications.
- Determines and coordinates data requirements and dependencies for upcoming projects.
- Defines and provides daily metrics/status for release/project health (Dashboards or other KPI delivery methods).
- Measurably improves processes and best practices to achieve goals.
- Verifies and acts as a gate for completion of projects through the different delivery gates/milestones. This includes defining and enforcing entry criteria for Production as well as approval and production sign offs.
- Builds and manages implementation/deployment plans for a release and other relevant production changes, as well as managing the execution thereof.
- Works with Engineering & Project Management (PM) to define inter dependencies in deployment plans.
- Develops recommendations to guide leadership and executive management to critical decisions.
- Provides leadership and encourages teamwork throughout all levels of the organization.
- Coaches, mentors, and trains as appropriate.
- Participates in recruiting, hiring and onboarding of team members.
Criteria
- 5+ years relevant work experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields or the equivalent work experience.
- Fundamental knowledge of applications, systems and integration points.
- Experience working on complex issues where analysis of situations/data requires in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
- Strong judgment and decision-making; ability to leverage depth of experience in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results and solutions.
- Experience building, motivating, and lead high-performance cross-functional teams
- Ability to build effective partnerships with, and between, the developers, architects, QA Team, product managers, and project managers; ability to establish key contacts outside one’s own area of expertise.
- Ability to positively influence change and address barriers impeding progress.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently, to receive limited instruction in determining methods and procedures on new assignments, and to coordinate activities of other associates in the group.
