Description:

The Shiseido Summer Internship program is a paid, full time 9-week program for college rising Juniors or Seniors starting June 3rd through August 2nd. We are committed to your professional development so during your time here, you can expect to participate in meaningful projects, networking, professional development workshops, speaker series, volunteer activities, and you will also have the opportunity to connect with your global peers across the world!  

 

The Packaging Optimization Intern will play a key role in the Package Engineering department (Based in East Windsor facility) to support new product launches and product line maintenance across multiple brands. The engineer will be part of the launch team to lead the Packaging efforts and ensure all the technical aspects from drawing approval, package testing, line trials, artwork validation and Packaging data creation are conformed to Shiseido Quality process. Cross-functions interactions to include:  

  • Brand Marketing and Product Development 
  • New Product Development 
  • Procurement 
  • Packaging engineering & lab 
  • Manufacturing (internal and external)  
  • Component suppliers  

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Pack standards for the Quality teams 
  • Help support approval of color and defect range boards 
  • Identify the relevant test methods and conduct Packaging lab testing, data validations and reporting  
  • Packaging lab support (fixture design/test method harmonization) 
  • Perform BOM (Bill of Materials) creation/changes for new/existing products (artwork, material change, new pack out) 
  • Perform palletization patterns for existing and new products using Cape software 
  • Issue FG specification updates to reflect palletization 
  • Revise and/or issue new component specifications to suppliers 
  • Conduct transportation testing in Packaging lab 
  • Tertiary development (Packer/shippers) to support other engineers  
  • Analysis of Engineering prints for components 
  • Write detailed specifications for components (primary, secondary, and tertiary) and finished goods 
  • Determine package tests for new components or Finished Goods 
  • Attend line trials and Finished Good production start-ups as needed 
  • Other tasks as needed to support engineers and gain exposure to Packaging role and corporate culture 

 

Requirements:

  • Must be a rising Junior or Senior in college working towards a bachelor’s degree  
  • Preferred Majors: Packaging, Material Science  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and be highly organized 
  • Entrepreneurial spirit: Takes initiative and drives clarity & resolution 
  • Ability to read and understand a 2D and 3D technical drawing 
  • Attention to details for many aspects of the Packaging role (i.e., technical print evaluation, testing protocols, Bill of Material, Artwork validation, supplier data review and analysis) 
  • Drive projects with full ownership, and hold accountability on team members to ensure all steps of the timeline are met 
  • Ability to adapt to fast-changing environments 
  • Willingness to take risks and to consider new approaches to improve the organization's competitive position  
  • Problem Solving: Ability to predict, recognize and define meaningful corrective actions to problems
