Software Engineers support all of the software aspects of our Automation Systems Development and Implementation including modifications of our standard software and development of Non-standard “Turnkey” Automation Software. Software Engineers are the developers on our Automation projects with ownership on the overall software connectivity between our custom and standard software offerings with a focus on the user interface. Our Software Engineering Team works under the DevOps model and is responsible for concept development, documentation, scripting, coding, user interface, security, onsite system implementation and validation. This includes supporting all phases of System Commissioning, Design, Build, Testing and Acceptance. Software Engineers work very closely with sales, quoting, automation engineers, application engineers, internal and external suppliers to conceptualize and realize projects quickly.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with customers and sales to scope software requirements according to customer specific requirements such as data handling, connectivity, user interface, programming templates.
- Deliver price summary and timing to quoting entity
- Develop concept and design of software interface and connectivity.
- Support of required customer deliverables and timelines
- Develop custom application to provide connectivity to customer data systems and standard ZEISS software with a focus on the end user interface while maintaining security requirements
- Develop complete software solution following Zeiss standard coding tools and practices.
- Validate system functionality and diagnose issues in a virtual environment; determine / validate corrective actions and preventive measures
- Follow change control processes to bring issues to resolution, maintain version control.
- Work with Germany to develop new standard software products and development tools.
- Must be able to develop and document operator instruction manuals.
- Must be able to collaborate and work within a team environment to support sales, quoting, application engineers, automation engineers, service, onsite technical personnel, and the customer.
- Must be willing to travel to customers site to perform final system testing/acceptance and technical training.
- Must be able to troubleshoot systems remotely and provide phone support for the customer’s maintenance and IT personnel.
- Must be able to work with outside integrators to help them understand and implement our software interface.
Experience and Education Requirements:
- Must have 4yr Engineering Degree (EE/CS/CE preferred) or equivalent experience including 5 years of education or equivalent experience in developing custom software applications.
- Must be knowledgeable in Visual studio .NET development using C#, or Python.
- Must have a strong aptitude for structured coding with good commenting skills
- Must have database knowledge, specifically SQL.
- Must be able to work with various communication protocols and APIs
- Must be able to work with or develop drivers to communicate with hardware (RFID, Barcode Scanners, Cameras).
- Must be willing and able to travel 35%
- Must have excellent computer skills and proficiency in MS Office.
- Preferred experience with coding in Visual Studio .NET with C# or Python
- Preferred experience with any classical programming languages (C/C++/Python)
- Preferred experience with any UI/UX design tools
- Knowledge of manufacturing automation a plus (AB/Siemens/Beckhoff/Fanuc/ABB/KUKA/UR)
- Knowledge of manufacturing quality/metrology systems a plus
