Job Description
Production Engineers are responsible for the dimensional capability, integrity and tooling aspects of assigned part numbers. They coordinate closely with our Tooling Department to ensure adherence to best practices and collaborate with our Ceramic Cores to maximize core quality and subsequent casting yields. Additionally, product engineers support process (metallurgical/NDT) engineers with gating concept designs and solid model manipulations and work together as a team to maximize casting yields.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review customer specifications and blueprints to determine the procedures, testing, and routing sequences required to meet the dimensional requirements.
- Utilize process knowledge, basic engineering principles, previous experience, and creativity as necessary to develop processes that result in the production of quality castings that conform to customer specifications and time tables.
- Participate in plant initiatives to support the reduction of scrap, rework and overall casting cost. Initiatives include but not limited to daily scrap reviews, development of Statistical Process Control (SPC) for significant process steps and participation in cost improvement teams
- Develop and maintain manufacturing work instructions and Engineering Specifications.
- Develop new technology to support part number and plant initiatives.
- Reviews all layouts, tool reworks and tool construction as necessary to ensure consistency and repeatability of process results.
Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or other related field of experience.
- 5 years of experience in a Product Engineer role
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints, customer specifications, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
- Working knowledge of 3D modeling software such as Unigraphics is a plus.
