As a Senior Software Engineer on the Platform team, you will help build infrastructure that protects services and products under Microsoft AI. You will get to work on cutting-edge systems that are meant to protect Gen-AI based services from abuse and denial-of-service.
This opportunity will allow you to:
- Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.
- Drive identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
- Create, implement, optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
- Leverage subject-matter expertise of product features and partner with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items.
- Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guide other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.
- Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.
Responsibilities
- Build and operate last-mile services on Edge Compute.
- Build extremely low-latency reverse-proxies that can scale dynamically and are deployed globally.
- Build and Enhance proxy capabilities for protocols such as WSS, WebRTC etc.
- Design, write and implement services with performance, efficiency, re-usability, and maintainability as core focus.
- Optimize network configuration for the middle and last mile for improving performance characteristics.
- Mentor engineers in the team by providing hands-on assistance, best practices, and promoting an inclusive learning environment.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of experience building and running distributed system applications.
- 4+ years working with Container infrastructure, Terraform, CDNs, and ingress proxies.
- 2+ years working on network drivers, Software Defined Networking infrastructure.
- 2+ years of experience working with Layer 3 and Layer 7 protocols.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
