Senior Backend Engineer

Your role

Fastned is a pioneer in a completely new industry, aiming to accelerate the transition towards sustainable mobility by giving freedom to electric drivers. As a Backend Engineer at Fastned, you have a unique opportunity to join a team of engineering professionals, to learn, develop your professional skills and eventually assist in accelerating the transition to sustainable mobility!  

We use Kotlin, Spring Boot (Micro Services), Kafka, Elasticsearch, CI/CD, AWS, Kubernetes, SQL and Rest API’s on our backend. You will join the Product and Software Engineering scrum team consisting of fellow Backend Engineers, Frontend Engineers, Engineering Managers, Product Managers, and Product Designers. 

Your overall responsibilities include

• Handling the design, development, testing, and review of reusable, maintainable, and scalable code for the Fastned Revolt platform and infrastructure;

• Working closely with peer senior engineers to define feature requirements to deliver a product that materially impacts the business and improves the customer experience;

• Interacting with your team to construct sprint planning to agree on technical direction and overseeing technical development from ideation to deployment;

• Assisting the team in improving development methodologies and applying best practice patterns;

• Coaching and mentoring less experienced team members;

• You'll be the driving force behind all back-end activities, helping all EV drivers have a great charging experience!

Requirements

Who we are looking for

• You have at least 5 years of relevant work experience with Java and/or Kotlin 

• You have experience with frameworks such as Spring Boot and Micronaut

• You are proficient with relational databases

• Experience working with Kafka and Elasticsearch is a big plus

• You have an engineering mindset and are eager to learn new tools or technologies

• You have a knowledge-sharing nature and can implement best practices

• You have an understanding of object-oriented programming as we predominantly use Kotlin on our backend

• You demonstrate critical, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills

• You have worked with various stakeholders across cross-functional teams 

• You demonstrate great communication skills, are proactive, and love working in a team. Proficiency in English is mandatory for this role.
