Job Summary

The Assistant Director will assist with all functions of the Office of International Student Affairs including the recruitment and retention of international students, data entry, the issuance of the Form I-20 for F-1 international students, and maintenance of legal status for international students. The Asst. Director will serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for SEVIS. The Asst. Director will report to and assist the Director of International Student Affairs with providing support, guidance, and resources to international students at all degree levels (language training, undergraduate, graduate, WCUCOM, etc.) on all campuses legally authorized by Department of Homeland Security to enroll international students to maintain their student status.

  • Assist the university in implementing the statement of purpose
  • Assist the university in implementing the institutional and financial plan
  • Report to the Director of International Student Affairs on all matters pertaining to international students.
  • Uphold and enforce the rules and regulations of the United States pertaining to international students and study at U.S. institutions.
  • Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) for the Study and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and report to Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) on all activities conducted in SEVIS.
  • Ensure the enrollment of F-1 students is in compliance with the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) and provide guidance to students to make informed decisions regarding maintaining their nonimmigrant student status, as well as sign and issue Certificates of Eligibility, Form I-20 to confirm enrollment
  • Assist international applicants at all degree levels (language training, undergraduate, graduate, WCUCOM, etc.) through the admission process, including the collection and processing of all required admissions’ documents, on all campuses authorized to enroll international students.
  • Contact prospects and new applicants (language training, undergraduate, graduate, WCUCOM, etc.) by phone, email, and text to collect and correct information, and transition students from prospects to enrolled students.
  • Assist current international students (language training, undergraduate, graduate, WCUCOM, etc.) with international services that support the student in maintaining his/her legal non-immigrant status in the United States (i.e. transportation, obtaining a Mississippi I.D. and/or driver’s license, Curricular Practical Training, Optional Practical Training, etc.) 
  • Assist the Director of International Student Affairs with planning and implementing yearly international events and compliance milestones (i.e. International Student Orientation, International Welcome Back, International Tax Workshop, etc.).
  • Assist with annual and weekly maintenance of e-Learning platforms to provide current guidance for international students on immigration policies and university requirements, including updates and changes.
  • Research and identify new support programs to implement for current international students (language training, undergraduate, graduate, WCUCOM, etc.) to retain, serve, and ensure compliance within the international student community.
  • Identify new avenues for international student recruitment and assist with international student recruitment.
  • Ability to learn and cross-train for other areas related to international student enrollment (including but not limited to domestic undergraduate admissions operations and graduate admissions).
  • Perform other tasks as deemed necessary for the operation of the Office of International Student Affairs.
