Position Overview
OMG currently operates in two Divisions: OMG Roofing Products and FastenMaster®. OMG Roofing Products is a leading global manufacturer and supplier of value-added components for the commercial roofing industry. The FastenMaster Division manufactures and markets innovative, premium quality wood-to-wood fasteners that are engineered to enable professional contractors to complete building projects safer, faster, and easier. Our managers and supervisors use Group Leaders to help coordinate production and manage team members in their work area. Group Leaders encourage teamwork and collaboration and drive production goals. A Group Leader’s priorities are safety, quality, continuous improvement, and employee development. This key position requires strong communication, problem solving and time management skills as well as the ability to work effectively with people and technical expertise in the specific work to be performed.
Position Responsibilities
- Promote Safety as the Number One priority of all OMG employees.
- Conduct regular safety meetings with the work group.
- Build strong working relationships and encourage teamwork and collaboration.
- Communicate in a manner that is respectful and results in mutual understanding.
- Take ownership of issues in your work area and work proactively to solve issues, especially those related to safety and quality.
- Promote continuous Lean activity and follow through.
- Confidently make changes that will improve the work area’s performance and move simple issues or problems forward.
- Demonstrate the use of good judgment when making decisions.
- Schedule daily work and direct team members to achieve safety, production, quality, and continuous improvement goals.
- Demonstrate technical, functional and job specific knowledge required for assignments in work area.
- Assist with production needs as necessary, including equipment set up and troubleshooting.
- Support performance management process by contributing to the review process, disciplinary actions and providing documentation related to performance.
- Communicate to manager or supervisor regularly on team performance against goals and individual contributor progress, immediately elevating specific issues or concerns.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Position Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5+ years’ technical experience relevant to specific work area preferred.
- Ability to understand written and verbal assignments, including the ability to interpret related documents such as quality specifications, Kanban cards or work orders.
- Ability to understand and achieve compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to build teams.
- Basic PC skills including experience with MS Office Suite preferred.
- Demonstrated problem solving and time management skills.
- Experience developing and/or training team members preferred.
- Good people skills and willingness not only to teach and help others, but an interest in working with and learning from others.
- Strong sense of responsibility and ownership.
- Positive can-do attitude.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in high noise areas and wear appropriate hearing protection devices.
- Manual material handling involving the need to grip, squeeze, and pinch.
- Ability to use hard tined rake to move/break apart parts frequently.
