The Opportunity
Thermo Systems is seeking a Business Process Mapping Consultant for a focused 6-month contract assignment embedded with the PMO. This role will support Thermo's One Way of Working initiative by documenting how key project delivery processes operate today across functions, teams, and customer programs.
The assignment is focused on current-state process mapping. The consultant will work with PMO, Operations, Engineering, Finance, Procurement, Sales, S&OP, IT, and project teams to understand how work flows today, where handoffs occur, what inputs and outputs are used, and where gaps, inconsistencies, or pain points exist.
The primary outcome is practical current-state process documentation that can support future operating model improvement, process standardization, and improved execution discipline.
What You'll Do
Core Responsibilities:
- Map selected current-state project delivery workflows, including opportunity-to-project handoff, contract finalization, project initiation, engineering execution, procurement coordination, customer change orders, forecasting inputs, field execution coordination, commissioning, and closeout handoffs.
- Facilitate interviews and working sessions with cross-functional stakeholders to understand how work is actually performed today.
- Document workflows using clear process maps, swimlanes, handoff points, decision points, roles, inputs, outputs, systems used, and common variations.
- Identify and document process pain points, bottlenecks, unclear ownership, duplicate work, manual workarounds, inconsistent practices, and key handoff risks.
- Build a practical current-state process library that PMO and operating leaders can use as a foundation for future-state process design.
- Summarize findings, themes, and prioritized improvement opportunities for leadership review.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Partner closely with the PMO Leader and existing PMO owners for process, Stage Gates, training, reporting, artifacts, and tools.
- Work with Operations, Engineering, Finance, Procurement, Sales, S&OP, IT, and project teams to capture cross-functional workflows accurately.
- Facilitate structured working sessions that are efficient, practical, and respectful of business leaders' and project teams' time.
- Translate informal or inconsistent workflows into clear, usable documentation.
- Communicate mapping progress, key gaps, handoff issues, and emerging themes clearly to PMO and operating leaders.
