The Oregon Department of Corrections is currently recruiting for a Facility Maintenance Specialist. This exciting employment opportunity is with the Oregon Department of Corrections at the Oregon State Penitentiary (OSP) in Salem, Oregon. You must be a current for ODOC and OCE employee (contract workers excluded) to apply.  

This position is represented by Association of Oregon Corrections Employees (AOCE). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

About the Job – Your Role

The Facility Maintenance Specialist supports the Physical Plant Manager in overseeing the maintenance program at the Oregon State Penitentiary. This role requires modeling pro-social behavior, reinforcing positive actions, addressing negative behavior, and effectively communicating observations to program staff and supervisors in support of OAM.

Key responsibilities include performing custodial and security-related duties, such as responding to AIC (Adults in Custody) incidents, maintaining control of keys, tools, and contraband to prevent escapes, supervising AIC workers, conducting searches as needed, and using physical restraints when necessary to manage hostile individuals.

The Specialist directs and supervises AIC work crews in a variety of building trades related to repair and maintenance. Duties include completing repairs and preventative maintenance, managing work orders and CMMS-scheduled tasks, and supporting other trade staff as needed.

Additional responsibilities include ordering supplies and parts, maintaining equipment and material inventories, assisting with project planning and cost estimates, training AIC workers on proper tool and equipment use, and participating in the interview and selection process for AIC workers. The role also involves monitoring work areas for safety and cleanliness, conducting searches to prevent contraband, and completing disciplinary reports in accordance with established procedures.

The Specialist may also perform skilled tasks in carpentry, general maintenance, lock repair, welding, painting, and plumbing, with guidance provided as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
