Summary

Performs a variety of standard and specialized tasks required by manufacturing in the test or manufacture of electronic components.  Uses a variety of standard and special test equipment.

 

Work is guided by diverse procedures, processes and/or technical methods of varying complexity. Incumbents have some freedom to select best methods and procedures to follow to complete assignments. Tasks are complex in nature where considerable judgement and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations. Decisions/actions may have an impact beyond the jobs immediate work unit or team. Works under general Supervision. Situations not covered by standard processes, procedures and methods are referred to expert resource. May provide functional guidance to others performing similar work. May demonstrate work methods to new employees. Deals directly with immediate supervisor, co-workers and team members; engages in exchanges of factual information and provides some explanation in a problem solving capacity; interactions with external contacts, if applicable, require exchanging factual information and providing some explanation.

Job Duties

Performs duties such as test set-up, executing test programs and trouble-shooting test failures.  Sets up and operates test equipment and conducts standard and non-standard tests on a variety of components and units.  Tests or assists in testing complete assemblies.  Observe, record and interpret test results to ascertain trends.  Work with test engineering to improve test processes.  Insure product and product flow conforms to functional, production and quality standards.  Performs preventative maintenance on standard and non-standard test equipment and apparatus.

 

May be assigned as a back up to set up and operate wire wrap machines and perform hand wire wrap operations.  May assist in training other employees in wire wrap operations.  

 

Executes to production schedules to meet customers’ requirements. Monitors standards for labor

identified on routers. Meets all quality requirements.

 

Follows all ISO 9001 and AS 9100 work instructions and general department procedures.  Keeps facilities, materials, and work area clean and organized, exercising care in their use.  Uses safety practices and takes prompt action to correct problems. Actively seeks continuous process improvement.  May be required to train other employees and assist in orientation of new employees.  Performs other duties as required and may be utilized in other areas and departments of manufacturing as workload may dictate.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • Must possess specific certifications as defined by site operations.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of board assembly process and product process flow.
  • In-depth knowledge of product quality, soldering specifications and SMT processing systems.
  • Ability to set up, operate, calibrate and maintain assembly and hand soldering equipment and tools.
  • Ability to recognize problems in the assembly process or with assembly components and to address those problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work effectively with team members and lead the team to high quality production within tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of in-circuit and functional test fixturing.
  • Knowledge of computer applications and the ability to accurately perform tasks in some or all of the following applications: Word, Lotus Notes, Excel and Documentation control systems.
  • More advanced manufacturing systems knowledge

Typical Experience

High School education or equivalent. Prior related manufacturing experience and be able to read blueprints and measuring devices a plus.  Prior experience in test, wire wrap and soldering experience is highly desired.  Must be able to handle all phases of set-up and schedule set-up of machines. Must have good communication skills.  Will be required to pass J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 certification.

Physical Demands

Work is performed in standing and sitting positions.  Must be able to lift and carry parts and fixtures of up to fift
