Position Summary:

  • Compensation: $20-$23/hour
  • Travel/Location: On-Site Florida various locations

Mission of Role/Position Summary:

The Shelter Support Staff member provides coordination and administrative support for shelter operation. The Shelter Support Staff will demonstrate high empathy and work with appropriate parties and staff to accomplish established objectives. This role will be critical in meeting the needs of the operation and migrant population it serves. This position requires excellent relationship-building and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide services as needed for migrant sheltering including check-in, tours, rules and guidelines.
  • Duties may include, screening, registration and/or feeding responsibilities.
  • Monitor the premises on a regular basis and report any concerns and resolve guest or logistical concerns.
  • Liaise with partnering agencies and ensure all policies and procedures and safety protocols are followed.
  • Actively participate in team and client meetings and provide regular updates.
  • Assist in overseeing the day-to-day running of the shelter in assigned areas including supplies, meals and basic needs.
  • Report progress, updates, issues and concerns to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all program policies and rules are implemented fairly and consistently.
  • Maintain familiarity with state and local government/policies and laws.
  • Ensure COVID and other infection control protocols are adhered to on-site.
  • Quickly process and manage a constantly evolving environment, including operational procedures.
  • Assist in and/or coordinate the development and revision of procedure and processes as needed.
  • Maintain guest arrivals list and other updated, accurate reporting in the database.
  • Request support, supplies, and equipment through designated channels.
  • Ensure proper shelter identification is worn at all times.
  • Seek guidance from supervisor as necessary and appropriate.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with following and executing program protocols.
  • High degree of empathy.
  • Comfortability with quick pivots/adjustments in program processes.

  • Outstanding organization and ability to work independently in fast paced environment.

Experience/Education Required:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Experience working or volunteering in a Shelter. Emergency Management Experience is a plus.
  • Previous experience working in customer service is required.
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences present and strong desire to help and make a difference.
  • Excellent judgment and instinct, especially when working autonomously.
  • Excellent communication and desire to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Experience in a dynamic environment in which priorities often shift quickly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Proven ability to make strong decision and think on your feet.

Experience/Education Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in emergency management, human service or relevant field.
  • Experience in Emergency Management/Operations.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English (or other language commonly spoken at the shelter) preferred.
