Mission of Role/Position Summary:
The Lead Shelter Support Staff member oversees coordination and administrative support for shelter operation. The Shelter Support Staff will demonstrate high empathy and work with appropriate parties and staff to accomplish established objectives. This role will be critical in meeting the needs of the operation and migrant population it serves. This position requires excellent relationship-building and collaboration skills and must be bilingual.
Responsibilities:
- Provides operational assignments, safety updates and communications to shelter staff and guests to ensure efficient operations
- Demonstrate a high level of respect for the guests. Ensure safety and privacy is a priority for guests and shelter workers
- Conducts on-site staff onboarding training sessions and provides supplemental or ongoing training as needed
- Facilitates employee technology and resources as needed
- Develops and modifies work plans, methods, and procedures, clearly and frequently communicating these instructions and updates to shelter staff
- Determines work priorities, and creates work schedules and assignments to ensure adequate staff coverage of all shelter needs
- Reports daily shift assignments for the following day’s shift
- Assigns and distributes work, reviews work for accuracy and completeness and provides feedback as necessary to ensure proper completion
- Resolves problems encountered during daily operations and determines appropriate solutions
- Responds to, and documents in writing, incidents and informal grievances and relays details and information to City and County of Denver leadership
- Documents in writing situations which may be cause for disciplinary action and reports immediately to City leadership, including, but not limited to
- Incidents impacting staff or City and County of Denver property
- Guests being served at the emergency shelters, and provides this information to leadership
- Provides information, directions, instructions, and tours of the facility
- Ensure proper shelter identification is worn when conducting shelter and operation work by all on-site.
- Seek guidance from supervisor as necessary and appropriate.
- Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
- All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Bilingual in (Spanish/English and able to read, write, and speak proficiently in both Spanish and English.

- Must be able and willing to perform well in a stressful environment and assist team in maintaining a collaborative, supportive workplace.
- Experience with following and executing program protocols.
- High degree of empathy.
- Comfortability with quick pivots/adjustments in program processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, strong Excel skill is preferred.
- Outstanding organization and ability to work independently in fast paced environment.
Experience/Education Required :
- Bilingual in Spanish/English (or other language commonly spoken at the shelter) preferred.
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Experience working or volunteering in a Shelter. Emergency Management Experience is a plus.
- Previous experience working in customer service is required.
- Sensitivity to cultural differences present and strong desire to help and make a difference.
- Excellent judgment and instinct, especially when working autonomously.
