Pay Range*: $23.00/hr - $31.57/hr

$1,500 signing bonus available to external hires new to MHS employment, contingent upon satisfaction of employment requirements.

Position Summary

The Perioperative Care Assistant is an unlicensed caregiver working under the direction of the Registered Nurse.  This position is responsible for supporting the Pre-Operative Unit to maintain smooth, effective communication between healthcare practitioners, departments, patients, and visitors.   The Perioperative Care Assistant is accountable for prompt, timely assistance which contributes to the patient’s progress towards discharge.  This role is accountable for patient admission, transfer, discharge flow processes, and for providing the most basic of patient care.  Including data collection, personal hygiene, and assistance with activities of daily living.   The Perioperative Care Assistant participates in the on call process. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job  

1. Demonstrates knowledge of the clinical and information technology systems   

2. Demonstrates the ability to safely and competently perform assigned activities. 
3.    Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights.  Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial and other sensitive material in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients and or employees 
4.    Manages and acknowledges patient-family-significant other expectations to create positive experiences 
5.    Contributes to an effective, clean and safe working environment 
6.    Demonstrates tact, sensitivity and discretion in order to maintain good relations with others.   
7.    Demonstrates the ability to integrate knowledge of job specific competencies 
8.    Follows directions and communicates with the registered nurse and other members of the healthcare team in an organized, clear and timely manner  
9.    Collects information pertinent to the patient’s status notifies the registered nurse of changes in patient’s condition.  
10.    Performs clerical duties related to admission, transfer and discharge.  
11.    Demonstrates the ability to safely maintain and competently use equipment in the delivery of patient care 
12.    Ability to be at work and be on time  
13.    Ability to follow company policies, procedures, standard work and directives   
14.    Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner  
15.    Ability to prioritize and multitask
