Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Perioperative Operations provides strategic and operational leadership for integrated perioperative services across Stony Brook’s enterprise-wide Operating Rooms and Endoscopy suites. This role is accountable for driving growth across services, optimizing surgical/procedural room utilization across sites, and leading the successful operational migration of appropriate surgical volume from inpatient and hospital-based outpatient settings to all ambulatory sites.
This position plays a critical leadership role to advance and expand Stony Brook’s surgical network with a focus on appropriate resource utilization, highest quality care, and patient experience. This leadership role partners with Surgical and Anesthesia leadership to facilitate transitions, track progress, and lead expansion projects.
Duties of an Assistant Director of Perioperative Operations may include the following but are not limited to:
- Operational oversight of Main OR, on-campus ASC and Commack ASC, ensuring optimal case allocation, staffing, and scheduling.
- Operational oversight of all hospital-based Endoscopy suites including oversight of Direct Book program to improve outcomes and increase volume.
- Drive throughput excellence including on-time starts, turnover times, and room utilization. Oversight of centralized Perioperative Scheduling Department.
- Lead efforts to operationalize new procedural suites including project management, staff planning.
- Optimize financial performance through cost management and effective patient coordination.
- Engage physicians in block utilization, ASC growth, and standardized care pathways.
- Operationalize workflows including pre-op, intra-op, PACU, and discharge processes.
- Ensure compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead workforce development, staffing models, and leadership engagement.
- Monitor performance metrics and develop dashboards for operational management.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required
- 7+ years of progressive leadership experience.
- 3+ years of Perioperative experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree (MHA, MBA, MSN)
- CNOR, CASC, or equivalent clinical experience
- FACHE
- Complex multi-site leadership experience
