Job Profile Summary
The Senior Director, Risk Management is responsible for innovation necessary to investigate and identify existing and emerging enterprise risks, evaluate the strategies to mitigate those risks, and develop operational risk management procedures. This position will lead the college in documenting enterprise risks, documenting risk mitigation efforts at the College, provide routine updates on existing and emerging enterprise risks, and make recommendations to mitigate the College's operational and strategic risk at the enterprise level. This must engage and develop effective working relationships in all departments of the College to support cooperative responses to risk management matters and issues. This position shall provide advice on, or provide, appropriate training to promote risk control awareness, ownership and accountability.
Minimum Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance of Management or related field required. A.R.M. (Associate in Risk Management) or C.P.C.U. (Certified Property and Casualty Underwriter) or Certified Insurance Consultant or Certified Risk Manager and/or Certified Safety Professional designation preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Minimum Experience/Training:
- Ten or more years of practical work experience in risk management or insurance industry.
- Experience managing all aspects of a risk management program, including the College’s Enterprise Risk Management program.
Essential Functions:
- Weekly -10%: In concert with the General Counsel, provides leadership and direction in the planning, development, and administration of committees, programs, systems, and work processes, which are necessary to perform or support activities required for risk management programs. Assists with creation and updating of College policies & procedures.
- Weekly -10%: In concert with the General Counsel, identifies and manage risks to the college, its employees, stakeholders, assets and operations and develop college-wide risk management strategies, objectives and policies that will establish the framework, tools and procedures to achieve successful risk identification and management within acceptable standards.
- Weekly -10%: Documents and maintains insurance policy files, legal files and claim files. Directs others to, or directly, evaluates and discovers any unique or sensitive issues surrounding insurance claims or incidents.
- Weekly (5%): Provides regular updates to the General Counsel regarding the emerging risks, the status of risk investigations and reviews, the status of claims and the potential exposure of liability, casualty, and property claims.
- Weekly -10%: In concert with the General Counsel, advises college-wide faculty and staff on matters that relate directly or indirectly to exposure of the individual or the institution to liability.
- Annually -10%: Manages and completes various insurance applications, maintains and monitors College Insurance premiums.
- Weekly -10%: In concert with the General Counsel, engages and develops effective working relationships to support Risk Management responses. Provides guidance on management of risks in contracts, agreements, leases, and other legal documents; works collaboratively with all areas of the College.
- Weekly -5%: Creates and maintains a reporting system, as necessary, and gather statistics and other relevant information from incident reports in order to provide trend and pattern information defining problem areas. Recommends courses of action designed to maintain, protect and restore College assets.
- Monthly -5%: In concert with the General Counsel, recommends and develops strategies for the handling and direction of current cases.
- Monthly - 10%: Keeps abreast of latest developments and trends in the areas of risk management and prevention, and insurance areas. Performs enterprise-wide risk analysis and identification and formulates recommendations for action & mitigation of risk.
- Other, As Needed - 2%: Works with the Safety & Emergency Management area to file claims with federal or state agencies, such as FEMA, for disaster recovery.
- Other, As Needed -3%: Develops and manages the budget for risk management operational needs, as well as college-wide insurance renewals.
- Monthly -5%: Directs others to, or directly, assess and determine the types and limits of insurance required for key service contracts for the College. Directs others to, or directly, assists procurement department to identify insurance needs for solicitations.
- Monthly -2%: Acts as the primary contact with College
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of insurance coverage in the areas of property and liability, as well as understanding loss
