About the role

Overview

The Department of Technology, Design, and Technical Education (TDTE) at Utah State University (USU) seeks candidates for a full-time, academic-year (9-month), non-tenure track term lecturer position that offers benefits. This position is for the nursing assistant program at the USU Blanding Utah campus. The appointment is 95% teaching and 5% service. The program will enroll the maximum number of students as regulated by the state accreditation agency, Utah Nursing Assistant Registry (UNAR), at each location. Instruction is to be provided according to program schedule. The faculty member will be responsible for initiation and implementation of a successful nurse assisting pathway program, which includes sustainable enrollment. The UNAR curriculum will be used. UNAR accreditation standards will be followed in the hiring of this position.

 

It is anticipated that the individual selected for this faculty position will start in August of 2024. This position will be supervised by the associate department head who oversees the health professions programs in the Department of Technology, Design and Technical Education. Review of applications will begin on April 1, 2024, and application reviews and interviews will continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities

  • Act under the general supervision of the director of health professions.
  • Assure that the program is conducted in accordance with all federal regulations, state rules, and UNAR policy.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student attendance and skill development.
  • Assure that the approved Utah Nursing Assistant Registry Certified Nursing Assistant Curriculum guides classroom instruction.
  • Teach courses within the program curriculum and according to the program schedule.
  • Maintain classroom and lab to UNAR standards.
  • Order and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Work with CTE Pathway Programs to recruit students into the classes/nursing assistant program.
  • Assure that every student completed in their name has met all completion requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the director of health professions and the office of the UNAR.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a currently licensed nurse with a minimum of two years of nursing experience; at least one year must be in the provision of long-term care facility services or caring for the elderly or the chronically ill of any age.
  • Must be a reasonable candidate for approval by UNAR. UNAR approval requires the following:
  • Completion of UNAR Instructor approval packet.
  • Licensed nurse in good standing with the Utah Department of Professional Licensure.
  • A resume showing 2 years of nursing experience; explicitly detailing at least 1-year experience in the provision of long-term care facility services or caring for the elderly or chronically ill of any age.
  • Must have completed a UNAR-approved "Train the Trainer" program or demonstrated competence to teach adult learners.
  • Fingerprinting and background check. Must be cleared for employment through the Utah Direct Access Clearance System (DACS).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong desire to help students succeed.

  • Prior teaching experience
