DATA & SYSTEMS ANALYSIS INTERN

The Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Arlington County and the City of Falls Church is seeking a Data & Systems Analysis Intern to work on their offices’ data driven solutions to increase public safety. This internship will dive into the office’s data to quality check entries and ensure all data is accurately captured and will have a special focus on tracking data for diversion programs. 

Specific duties include:

• Reviewing prosecutor data to ensure completeness and correctness of entry;
• Assisting with the development, implementation, and maintenance of electronic or manual record-keeping systems; and
• Working with a team of analysts and other associates to process information for the new data dashboard.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

• Functional knowledge of subject matter relevant to assignment through completion of relevant college coursework;
• Reading comprehension to read policies, procedures, program information and technical materials;
• Writing skills to compose and edit reports, procedures, policies, recommendations;
• Interpersonal skills to develop effective work relationships with coworkers, supervisors, customers, and mentors;
• Skills in using applicable technology to complete work tasks including most current office technology for word processing, data management, and presentations, specific industry/work applications, and employee self-service options; and
• Problem solving skill to define problems, gather relevant information to solve vaguely defined practical problems, and make recommendations for resolution.

Minimum:

• Completion of at least two years (60 semester hours) in a Bachelor’s degree program.

Please note: Employee must have little to no professional experience after the qualifying education requirement.

Desirable: Preference may be given to applicants with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and one or more of the following:

• Previous work with data entry in large data sets;

• Familiar with analyzing large data sets and creating visualization tools; and/or

• Interest in and familiarity with criminal legal reform and prosecutor-led diversion.

Special Requirements

Background Check: A pre-hire background check will be made on all candidates who qualify for this position. It may include checks of the following: criminal record and driving record. You will be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information. 

Additional Information

Key info:

• We'd like interns to work 20-30 hours a week in-person in Arlington, but this is flexible.
• We anticipate filling this position by June 1.

Supervision

Received: Close supervision is provided on a regular basis to teach and explain work assignments.  Employee is expected to apply knowledge of theories, principles, and subject matter learning in order to carry out assignments with some independence.
