This advertisement is for a SMS (Senior Management Service) position located in Tallahassee at FDC’s Central Office.

 

Salary: $135,000 - $145,000 annually

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is the country's third-largest state prison system, operating 49 major state-run prisons and seven contract-operated facilities and overseeing over 140 probation offices. The Director of Facilities Management & Building Construction (FMBC) is a member of the executive leadership team, reporting directly to the Deputy Secretary. The FMBC team is responsible for the oversight, maintenance, and construction requirements of 22 million square feet of buildings.

 

The Director provides oversight and direction in facility maintenance, facility planning, construction management, and asset control for all public and private areas of FDC. Responsibilities include:
 

  • Manage and lead professional staff trained in architecture, engineering, construction, maintenance, and leased lands management.
  • Provide oversight and direct program area work to implement major fixed capital outlay projects.
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values a commitment to responsiveness and quality.
  • Implement multiple high-visibility construction projects in accordance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Proactively plan for the annual legislative cycle including tracking funding gaps and issues, as well as the creation of legislative budget requests for obtaining new funding for agency FMBC initiatives.
  • Responsible for preparing and maintaining the 5-year Capital Improvement Program Plan (CIPP) for the department’s annual Legislative Budget Request (LBR), in conjunction with the department’s program areas.
  • Coordinate and manage outsourced resources, vendors, and service providers.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Department leadership to establish and evaluate priorities in support of operation objectives and direct operational planning.
  • Identify organizational challenges and emerging issues, collaborating with the leadership team and subordinate leaders to pinpoint internal and external opportunities and solutions.
  • Adhere to applicable laws and regulations, including timely and accurate reporting of division, bureau, regulatory, and statutory data.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Demonstrated ability to perform the tasks and responsibilities listed above.
  • Professional with at least 10 years of progressively responsible industry experience, (commercial construction management, architecture, engineering, and/or maintenance).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in project management, managing multiple construction and maintenance projects at one time.
