Senior Software Engineer

Merlyn Mind is a "Remote First" VC-backed AI EdTech startup that brings the latest advances in AI to Education to help improve the lives of teachers and ultimately the learning outcomes of their students. Our leadership team includes talents from IBM, Amazon, Facebook, Roku, Broadcom, HP, Allen Institute for AI, and more. We have come together to build on a unified product experience for an extremely urgent mission – building a digital assistant for teachers, to untether teachers from the desk and help them with managing classroom technologies.

What you'll do

• Design, Develop, and Deploy highly scalable Microservices based systems
• Maintain or augment existing services as needed
• Create and run infrastructure, CICD pipelines and tooling required to support systems
• Participate in all aspects of the software development life cycle including requirements analysis, planning, development, testing, deployment, support, and maintenance
• Troubleshoot incidents, identify root cause, fix and do ament problems, and implement preventive measures
• Educate teams on the implementation of new cloud-based initiatives, providing associated training as required 
• Employ exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity 

Qualifications

• 6+ yearsof hand on experience in Software Development
• Experience designing, developing, and implementing large scale distributed systems with high resiliency and reliability  
• Experience building, deploying and running software and corresponding infrastructure on AWS using a range of AWS services
• Excellent understanding of Microservices and how they are designed 
• Strong Java Developer with skills in Spring / Spring Boot 
• Proven ability to work with other programming languages e.g. Kotlin, Python, JavaScript 
• Able to work with different levels of ambiguity 
• Strong experience working with Docker & ECS or Kubernetes 
• CI/CD experience - e.g.CircleCI, Jenkins 
• Excellent working knowledge of infrastructure as code 
• CDK, CloudFormation orTerraform, and an understanding of best practices 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• AWS certifications 
• Knowledge of Kotlin in developing backend services
• Kubernetes package management using Helm 
• Experience securing containerized microservices systems 
• Experience with multiple authentication protocols such as OAuth2.0, SAML
• Experience in one or more scripting/development languages - Python/Shell/Go/NodeJS
