What You Will Do

To direct and coordinate operations for medical staff and credentialing verification office services throughout UAB St. Vinent’s. To work collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officers and other St. Vincent leadership as appropriate to develop and integrate services and programs in a manner that ensures strategic alignment across inpatient and

 

1. Plans, formulates and recommends medical staff service strategic plans, policies and procedures, both inpatient and ambulatory, to the Medical Executive Committees (MEC) for approval. Ensures that all recommendations align with UAB Medicine strategic objectives.2. Coordinates and maintains medical staff governance documents including, but not limited to, medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations; organization and functions manual; and credentials policy. Ensures regular and thorough review of existing policies and governance documents; recommends changes as appropriate. Maintains physician and advanced practice provider (APP) credential files.3. Plans, develops, implements and evaluates all approved programs, projects and major initiatives: staff credentialing/re-credentialing and appointment/reappointment process. Ensures compliance with all UAB Medicine policies and procedures, federal/state regulations, Joint Commission, CMS and any other applicable regulatory standards governing the organized medical staff. Works with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to provide assistance in the management of the ongoing professional practice evaluation (OPPE)/focused professional practice evaluation (FPPE) process as defined by the CMO and Governing Body.4. Serves as an expert resource to UAB Medicine medical staff leaders: assists as needed to expedite problem identification/resolution, provision of project specific updates, other assistance as requested by the MECs, Credentials Committees, Chief Medical Officer.5. Plans and directs the daily operations of the department. Oversees all human resources activities and ensures appropriate utilization of staff and resources needed to achieve project deliverables and meet client expectations.6. Ensures active communication with all external and internal stakeholders to establish strong, collaborative relationships that are consistent with organizational goals and strategic needs.7. Develops and oversees the department budget. Reviews and monitors financial and capital expenditures. Thoroughly explains any budget variances.8. Establishes and measures organizational performance against goals and objectives. Ensures results are defined and measurable as well as focused on growth and improving outcomes.9. Performs other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need

Licenses / Certifications / Registrations

  • Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) by the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) preferred.

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Health-care or related field required
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years in the discipline. Will consider equivalent years of experience in lieu of education.
