LOCATION: Tallahassee – Leon County
STARTING SALARY: $1,663.57 Bi-Weekly. (In accordance with current spending restrictions, an internal promotion into the position will be filled at the minimum of the pay grade or up to 5% of the employee’s current rate, whichever is higher.)

DESCRIPTION:
This is a highly responsible position within the Office of Inspector General's Background Screening Unit that requires certification in Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS). The incumbent is responsible for conducting employment background screenings. The position requires confidentiality, independent judgment, good organizational and time management skills, the ability to communication verbally and in writing, experience reading criminal history reports and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
Conducts candidate background screening checks:
- Retrieves data from the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC).
- Roll candidate fingerprints.
- Research criminal history data.
- Query various computer information systems.
- Liaison with courts throughout the United States.
- Liaison with various law enforcement agencies throughout the United States.
Corresponds with other departments or other agencies via mail, fax, or telephone
Performs Quality Control Reviews on completed background screening.
Travel throughout the State to conduct background screenings or training.
Monitor other staff activities when the supervisor & Lead Screener are temporarily out of the office
Answer questions and resolve minor issues of other staff members in the Unit.
Train new staff members on conducting background screenings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the methods of data collection and analysis.
Knowledge of basic management principles and practices.
Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems, document workflow, and other activities relating to the improvement of operational and management practices.
Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents, and other written materials.
Ability to conduct fact-finding research.
Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to operational
