Summary of Job Duties:

The Student Development Specialist of the Delta Educational Opportunity Center is responsible for implementing, monitoring and maintaining a postsecondary access strategy for eligible adult participants throughout a fourteen-county area. The Specialist assists clients in postsecondary admission and financial aid application, postsecondary enrollment and provides a variety of other educational services. This position is grant-funded and is contingent upon annual federal appropriation. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.


Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • A valid driver’s license and a personal vehicle are required for travel.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Preferred fields are counseling, student services, higher education, education, public affairs, nonprofit areas, or closely related field; experience in working with disadvantaged populations;
  • Instructional experience and working knowledge of purposes and performance outcomes of educational equity programs; representative of the population served (first-generation college/low income)/experience in overcoming barriers similar to the target population.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Meet new revised program objectives;
  • Meet and implement new revised program competitive preference priorities (CPP’s);
  • Identify the required number of program participants, two-thirds of whom must be low income and first-generation college students;
  • Document secondary/postsecondary client needs;
  • Attain program objectives for the assigned target area;
  • Verify secondary and postsecondary enrollment and financial aid awards;
  • Advise participants concerning a variety of pre-college subject areas and financial literacy;
  • Conduct a variety of workshops for counselors, civic organizations, and social service agencies;
  • Maintain database of client records according to federal regulations;
  • Prepare monthly, mid-year, and annual reports;
  • Implements CPP1, CPP2 & CPP3;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
