Job Description
The Accounts Receivable Specialist position supports the Accounts Receivable team within Student Financial Services. The specialist will respond to student inquires and customer service related to student accounts, processing third-party awards and payments, and coordinate communications related to accounts receivable operations. Responsible for review and approval of accounts receivable charges, charge reduction requests as well as authorized waivers and refunds. Analyze and process student account transactions as well as reconciliation of accounts. The specialist will monitor, collect, and analyze data and identify process improvements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) sufficient to analyze, interpret, and prepare financial information, records and reports; locate errors; and recommend solutions to procedural or other fiscal problems.
- Knowledge of a private or governmental accounting system, sufficient to query and compile records and reports, and assist with preparation and maintenance of spending plans, financial status reports and budget requests.
- Working knowledge of electronic spreadsheets, word processing software, computers and other office equipment such as calculators.
- Mathematics skills sufficient to calculate, review and reconcile data and balance accounts.
- Ability to design, interpret and explain work procedures and operations and provide advice on fiscal policies and procedures.
- Ability to read and write a variety of materials in sufficient to communicate with others.
Preferred Qualification
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
- High school diploma, plus two or more years of post-secondary education in accounting or related field or work experience in accounting or finance.
- Proficiency with computers for purposes of data entry, word processing and spreadsheet/Excel accuracy. Working knowledge of processing Microsoft Access queries and reports.
- Prior work experience with the MN State College and University accounts receivable, financial aid and student record modules and especially familiar with how they interrelate with each other. Familiar with student information systems such as Workday.
- Ability to recognize problems and to take action by either performing appropriate adjusting entries or by communicating the need for corrective action to eliminate errors.
